Simmons SUP Fin Placement

Hi guys. Just after a bit of help with fin placement. I’m going to have a 10" centre fin box on this, what’s a good placement for the quad?

Cheers.

Been making these since 2010.  6.5" and 1.5" off rail on rears and 14" and 1.25" off rail on fronts is my formula.  Have fun and post pics of the build!

Kirk

Thanks Kirk. If I could have any SUP, it would be one of yours! Perhaps I could be your European distributor! Seriously, beautiful work.

What’s a good toe on that placement?

Thanks mate.

Thanks.  I use 1/4" on fronts and 3/16" on rears.

Thanks Kirk. Here are some photos of the build so far!

I did 2x4oz on the bottom, with the vector, bit worried it might not be enough. Taperd the net out of the tail, mostly because I thought it looked cool, it’s got carbon going on top, so shouldn’t weaken it, I hope!

Any criticism welcomed!

Mr Simmons died long before the SUP or Mini Simmons craze. I cannot speak for Mr Simmons or his family. I can only speak for me. SUP Simmons seems like an insult to surfing and Mr Simmons.

But that’s my opinion…I can’t help you with fin placement. I think the term "SUP Simmons"or “Simmons SUP” is distorting history.

It’s certainly an intersting perspective. I meant no disrespect to Mr. Simmons, or his family. It seems to be widely accepted as a term to describe this particular style/shape of SUP, so in that respect it’s convenient. There was a chap over here in England, he had this crazy idea that maybe things weren’t meant to stay the same, maybe their adaptations were benificial to their survival in some way, I think his name was Darwin…But that was just his opinion. ;)

You could just call it a SUP. That’s what it is. It has nothing to do with Simmons or Darwin. Or England.

How about this…Hey guys I am building an awesome SUP can you help me with fin placement?

It’s a valid point, I was just taking the piss!

It never ceases to amaze me the boards people will slap the Simmons appelation on.

The Surfing Heritage & Culture Center where I work part time has about 10 original Bob Simmons boards and I’ve fondeled every one of them.

The list of similarities between this “SUP” and a Simmons ends at them both being roughly oblong shapes made to ride waves.

I wouldn’t think fin placement would matter that much on a SUP - I mean you got a paddle to steer the thing with.

I like the outline though. I’d like to borrow it if I may, and re-size to 5’4"x20"so it’ll be a bit more fun to ride
