Now where getting some where.
E glass behaves better with epoxy but only slightly as its more specifically designed for the bonding mechanics of polyurethane. Innegra and s glass are designed for the capabilities of epoxy and propylene, the bonding structure suits
Congrats on missing the point of this thread as well as not being able to glass 2oz, as many others have. Its not so much about 2oz this or 4 oz that. Its about the concept of relative strength of two lighter layers of cloth vs 1 heavier layer. How many boards I have glassed is completely irrelevant and even if it was relevant you would still be confusing experience with expertise. The point which has been clarified by others is that more layers of lighter cloth is stronger than a single layer of heavier cloth.
StingRay, keeping it real, what’s the big deal? How many of you glass your decks with 2 layers of 2 oz? How many have glassed with 2 oz? I have, and it felt like glassing with silk. At the end of the day Ray’s gonna say what Ray’s gonna say, and he sure builds some nice boards!

I am interested what the community thinks about using more layers of lighter cloth VS fewer layers of heavier cloth?.. I am thinking of using 2 layers of 2oz (total) on my deck as opposed to a single 4oz (for a performance/short life shortboard).

(EDIT: I detect the scent of equivocation.)

Have you or DingRay used 2 layers of 2 oz for a foam deck rather than a single layer of 4 oz? If so, was 2 + 2 stronger than one layer of 4 oz?
I could be wrong, but I do not think the OP was concerned about the ease/difficulty of using 2 oz.

Puncture resistance of double vs single layers has been tested in a quantified manner and improved puncture resistance in the double layers has proven to be the case…
I think it has something to do with the way individual strands of cloth in one layer back up the other layer so as to provide better coverage between the weave. A single layer of heavier cloth will end up with more gaps between the warp and fill fiber directions.
It would be cool if the thread ended with this^
Agreed. A good place to stop.
Its a good place to end it .
Everyone else should post the same
But
What about 3 layers of 2oz
or
1 layer of 6oz with a 0.58oz chaser
mmmmmmm yep, boom!
…???
what ya reckon???
1 layer of 6oz should be covered with 0.599999333333333 to support th sumovertipotis amolium quality milow gasket.

One layer of 6.9 oz top and bottom.
It wont matter if its upside down.
6.9
6.9
See upside down and its still the same
I just weighed my 6oz, WTF!
it’s not even close!
