single concave on aps 3000

any hints on how to design a single concave bottom contour on aps3000? i was unable to move the fixed blue point at the bottom center of the slice.

also, any hints on adding points would be appreciated.

first, move the red square that is attached to the stationary blue square in the center so that they are right on top of each other. then, move the yellow square that’s attached to the blue square on the rail edge of your intended concave above and to the left of the stationary blue square in the middle so that your curves cross themselves. this will give you a workable impression of your concave’s width and depth. add more slices and do the same thing to define width and depth at various lengths along the board. the third button on the toolbar says “add point”. click this button, and then click along the outline curve wherever you want to add a new point. then, to go back to adjusting your curves, toggle the “add point” button off.

here’s a pic:

Lithium,

You don’t raise the stringer to get a concave, you lower the rails. The program comes with some generic templates, the generic 6’2" shortboard template has concaves. Check out this one to get an idea of how to do it. Go to File > New > Choose a template board - 6’2" generic shortboard. Do you have access to an APS3000 machine?

no i don’t have access to an aps3000 machine. i am using the software as a visualization tool for proposed designs. thanks for your helpful hints. how does one design a swallow tail? i tried moving the corner outline points past the tail (to the negative x direction) but this wasn’t possible.

thanks for all of your helpful replies

Swallows have to be put in by hand, in the traditional fashion. For visualisation, you can take a screenshot and then bring the image into another program - Photoshop whatever.

Yea, thanks Pinhead. Because the machine not able to cut swallows, the software doesn’t allow that ability, like you said have to be done by hand.

Regarding the concaves, sorry about the way that works, I realize it is a little unintuitive but we made so that you can’t move that center point for a lot of reasons. So the way is, as said above, is to pull the lower point on rail down by either the mouse or the use of the arrow keys for fine tuning.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks
