Single fin #1

My first board. Designed by myself and machine preshaped (DSD). I finished preshape and epoxy (spanish 110 min gel time) glassed it. I used a little roller to saturate fiber glass. Just wetting the roller and saturating the fiber glass slowly. Easy to do. Very easy to saturate freelaps.

5’10" x 20" x 2.5"

True Ames Norm Flex 7" fin

Fin box is placed a little bit forward I guess, 6", since tail thickness didn’t allow me to place it 5" from the tail. Leading fin edge is 12.25" from tail. I can move it a little bit back. Is this a good place for that Norm Flex 7" fin?.

I love it. Reminds me of a board I grew up with.

I like it too and i guess chip will love the single fin as well.

Cheers KS.

hiya Nigro !

what are the nose and tail widths , please ?

cheers !

ben

actually , if the finbox was further back , I’d be interested to whack in a couple of side plugs and have the 2+1 option as well …

I have a single fin with a pretty similar shape, and I use that same fin. Love it. That looks like about where I have it as well. I’ve found I either use a firm fin set back in the fin box, or the flex fin set a bit forward.

The board looks great. Love the color.

Hey chip, nose is 15.25" and tail is 14.5". Nose rocker 3.86" and tail rocker 1.83".

I’ve always ridden trifins and to me it feels like when you are a kid and you put side little wheels out in your bike. I didn’t know how much drag side fins make. I’ve a lot to learn.

You can lay the fin over with the base of the fin (not the part that goes into the box, but the base that’s even with the deck) along the edge of the box’s slot. Move it up & back until the tip of the fin extends past the rail of the board by just about 1 inch. Tip the fin back up to 90* and put it in. That’s a good start point. If its too hard to turn, move it forward. Not enough drive, move it back.

Love the board, by the way.

Thanks Benny1. I’m gonna do it. I’m sure there is an explanation about that trick.

The trick is really to make sure you have the right size fin for your tail width  If its too big, even at the front of the box, it will hang over the rail by more than an inch. If its too small, it won’t reach an inch over, even at the back end…

I think your fin is a good choice.

what bottom shape did you shape? spiral vee? i was considering doing something similar to this one for my first ( a bit bigger) and was curious to have a first time shapers opinion on it.

What is a spiral vee?

Vee bottom. I don’t know what spiral vee is. Straight down sharp edges last 12 inches, boxy hard rails all the way to the nose. Actually softer near the nose.

Hey Benny1 thanks for the explanation.

Very cool,

how did you get that older style tint?

Oh, is foam painted. I realized when laminating that a little bit of paint mixed with resin. Maybe I used the wrong paint, or didn’tn allow it to dry enough. Acrylic water based paint.
