single fin board

what’s the best measurement for single fin board use 165 to 170cm man, surf around 2-4 feet waves.??

i would like to make my first single fin board…

. I reackon . 6’6x19 x2&3/8, round pin modern shape.

Ask around at some surf shops in the area, watch surfers that have something like what you are looking for and ask them what they think.

Point is, different breaks require different boards. I moved from ca. to nc, thats a big change in wave power.(get it?)

You want something that will handle mushy waves? try a fish

I know for myself, if targeting “2-4’ " surf, meaning thigh to chin, I’d make a 6’ x 22”

x 15" nose, 15" tail squash with flat rocker out of a 6’9R blank around 2.7" thick.

Gawd dammit LeeD, why did you have to go and give measurements like those…Now I have to buy another blank tomorrow…

Some of my favorite boards were short singles with almost balanced nose and tail, wide at the center, but kinda pulled in nose and tail.

Just basic stuff that works good everywhere, doing everything. Like a Spacecake with a slightly narrower nose.

how can a centimeter-man wride a footed waive?

it just aint natural…

or even a footed board length?

Mustent it bye a 1.46 meter board or perhaps a 1.73 metre?canst it not be some consystancie in our subcultural comunique

[Blymie and I likely sail cross the pacific from the societies to bryng Chrystian Fletcher to justice with the Admiralty]

personally I had rode one 3.2 meteer board to rousing success on this fine may day while standing with the paddle and flying on the transparent sea of ancient Wailua on the breath of a swell from the loins of tahiti lusting for the sands of Kauai …perhaps an entirely diffrent motive, yet satisfying just the same

…ambrose…

oh yea its a single fin

now as Ive calculated is that 5’7’’ in height?

and 159# in weight

these are my engllish scale measurements

the low end board is about 6’ x21’ x 3’’ thick roound tail w/3/8 double concaves in the tail w/ a 12 1/2’’ nose and a 14 1/2’’ tail…

and yes the 12’3/4’’ is 24’‘wide and 4 3/4’’ thick with a 17’’ nose and a 16 ‘’ tail,rounded pin yet thin and foiled

dont forget the mat …

I was thinking of it all day, while riding the board

… happy may day.

I definatly agree with LeeD, go short and wide. the idea of wide centre and pulled in tail and nose also sounds good. Alternatly you can keep it wide and go Stubbie which are stacks of fun too.

what’s “Stubbie” , Josh ?

te h… etc

Well Ben, I’m around 190 lbs x 1,8 m, quite heavy for my tall. To this range 2-4 ft i’d use a 5’10" x 19" x 2.5", about 15" nose and 13.5" tail, with 60/40 rails, boxy on tail, very edgy swallow 5" tip to tip single finned (7.5" short base: 4.5"), single-concave running through lenght and a flat panel off de tail. It worked well despite it’s thruster nature(when I bought it, thought that one side fin was more toed than the other, so i’ve chopped 'em off and glassed a longboard fin on it), even in hollower days. In my area, the waves rarely get solid overhead like good, so it played it just nice up to head high. Was a great experience, the turning capability could be a little better if the back-half rails were lower than the nose’s.
