single vs double action

Opinions on detail airbrushes-

Single Vs. Double?

jpt: that depends on the graphics you intend to put on your board. If you like a lot of detail and fades, the double action gives you much better control and flexibility. If you are doing mostly block colors and pin lines, your single action models will be more than adequate. More important is your air supply. Invest in a good compressor and tank. If you get the cheap hobbyist compressors, you’ll have problems placing a nice clean line since those tend to pulse. With a good compressor, single action, and practice, you can do just about any detail and fade that you can with a double action brush.

I’d say go with the double action. It gives you control and versatility. Some double action airbrushes allow you to set the trigger to a fixed opening, thus mimicking a single action.

Also, you’d do best to get some practice with a single action and when you feel pretty confident with that, move up to a double action.

If you’re learning to airbrush and don’t have much experience, the double gets in the way initially.

For me the double action works great… I’ve tried a single action in the past and coundn’t get the hang of it…
