Six fin conversion

A few years ago, think it was 2009, I hacked out a 6’3" x 20" x 2 3/4". It currently has a 2+1 set up.

I dont surf it anymore…cos it sucks…literally.  Its mediocre at best on the face, but once it hits the flat it immediately slows down and sinks…

Now in 2011 after reading deadshaper’s QRQ=Quads Are Quick thread I think I know whats wrong (For ref see: http://www2.swaylocks.com/node/1024246).

I remember shaping a flip into the tail rocker (last 6" or so) cos I thought that’ll give it a shorter turning radius. But according to QRQ, this is a feature youd use on a 6 finned board to counteract the lift from all those fins (DS please feel free to set me straight if im restating what you said incorrectly)…and keep the tail from skipping town…

So my logic is to add 4 more fins to try and ballance out the suction generated by the tail at higher speeds.

The current side fins are at 14 1/2" from the tail and 1" from the rail

The QRQ and “How I probox” (http://www2.swaylocks.com/forums/how-i-probox) threads also provided some key fin placement numbers…Again thanks deadshaper and Afoaf!

So this is what the plan looks like right now:

The middle row is 1" from the rail, 1" from the front row and 10 1/4" from the tail.

The rears are 1" from rail BUT 1 1/4" from the middle row. (Keeping that distance at 1" looked a bit too crowded and seemed like it will overlap the foils). The rears are 6 1/2" from the tail.

My goal is to keep the foil planes (long black lines parallel to the stringer) with in 1 1/2" inches. But Its still looks a bit crowded back there… Spreading the cluster will very quickly push the foils past this magic 1 1/2" threshold. This apparently creates drag…

Ill be using the 4WFS.
