So i have been doing research in the archives about this topic, but wanted to ask for myself. So i am in the current position to purchase a used Skil 100 that will need a new cord, but i have not been able to test the planer to see what condition it is in as far as how the motor sounds. I am a little skeptical about making the purchase because i know how hard and expensive it is to get parts for these things. Which brings me to my next point, would it be safer and smarter to just get the new Hitachi Clark Foam planer and know that its brand new and if something does go wrong i can replace the part without any problems. What to do, what do to, any suggestions would be great thank you.
A cord is cheap and PeteC can fix anything on any planner regardless of the brand. Buy the skil 100 and cherry it out and get a Hitachi as a second planner at a later date. If you your not up to the restoration just go to Foam EZ and get a new Hitachi.
How much will you be paying for the Skil, if you buy it?
I will hopefully be paying around $350 for it.

Well worth it, as long as it is sound. Cords are no problem. Buy an extension cord at HD, cut the female end off, and wire it in.
At that price jump on it!
Don’t be penny wise pound foolish.
You can smell the armature through the exhaust vents to tell if it has been smoked. If you have to rotate it by hand while smelling.
This Skil 100 fetish just gets deeper and more obsessive by the day.
Sniffing the exhaust vents… now that just sounds naughty !!!
Where is that rubberlove guy that used to be on here years ago he’d love this
Cheers
