Hello everyone,
I’m going to try and shape a board (my first). I’m gonna make a template from my old Frye egg and see what I can do. I’m in San Diego. Anyone down here have any suggestions on what would be a good blank to go with?
Thanks

I can’t help you, but please post the nose, tail and widepoint dims if you make a template from that board, it looks sweet!
id be interested in the dimensions of that sweet little board, do you have a shot of the rocker too?
Wow… they don’t make 'em like that anymore…
Are the Takayama blanks available from Excell? I’d look into that…
GOOD Lord ! thats unreal! I had one just like that, it was one of the best boards i ever had, kept it for years—it got charred in a minor house fire and then it got lost-----WOW, better take care of that baby
Cool!
Do you remember where you got it?
from Freedom surf shop–they were in LBI and Ocean city–i custom ordered it in the very early spring–i remember it coming with a very neat flex fin --thing reallly flew—dam wish i knew where it was today ;-(
Just looked into an ole bunch of surfboard stuff and found a Color slide of the board—just like cherokees ,but here are the DIms: Nose 15.5 tail 15.5 and wide point 22.75 i had written them on the cardboard of the slide…now, i think i;ll sit here and see what else is in this folder, it goes back a loooooong time
Get a Walker 7’ “hull” blank…not sure what they really call it but it’ll work great for that shape. Lotsa width through the nose, flat rocker and enough beef to take an S-Deck. Plus Walker foam is a dream to shape.
Be sure to snap a line before you lay your template on it though. My last two had pretty twisted stringers and one side was about 1/2 inch narrower than the other. Nothing you can’t work with though.
“Wow… they don’t make 'em like that anymore…”
Frye, Liddle, Andrieni, Josh Hall, Ryder, Klaus Jones Anderson/Putnam/Bojorquez do…only better.
walker makes a 7’2 with the appropriate flatness, mass and width
My bad…the 7’2" was the one I was thinking about.
Yea?
I guess they’re just not available around here…
What’s better about them?
lil better for a hard or full rail. better entry rocker.not like using a 7’6 and having to work the rocker in and waste foam. .
Try Walker’s website and order from them…did you check Mitch’s. Like I said, they are good because the flat rocker is already built in and they have thickness and width where you need it. The foam is denser down deep than Clark so you can carve them up without sacrificing too much compressive strength. The foam cuts nicer than anything else I’ve used but that is personal preference.
You could probably find another brand, just ask for a 7’+ fun board shape or cut up a longboard. You just need enough skill to cut your own rocker…The Clark version was either a 7’2"E or 7’4"E
I know this doesn’t relate to a 6-10 but, I picked up a Frye with the identical outline - probably from the same era - that was a 7-10. Got it at a board swap locally and was so jazzed to find it that I just tucked it under my arm and bought it. Problem was it had a severe twist end to end. REAL bad twist like it had been stored on top of a furnace on high heat with alot of weight on it for years.
Anyhow…sold it to a friend who’s only ridden Fryes for decades, but did pull the numbers and template it. Like said, it was the exact same as the board shown except for length so, proportion to length as desired…
Length: 7-10 Nose: 16 3/4 Wide: 22 1/2 Tail: 16 Thick: 2 7/8 Nose Rocker: 5 1/4 Tail Rocker: 1 3/4.
Slight “V” last 20+“. 10” F.U. Box 5" from tail. Rails down last 18"or so fading to 50/50’s rest of the way.
The nose rocker is deceptive as it has a bit of flip in the last 8 to 12" which you can kind of pick up in the pics shown. A side view would make it obvious.
Mine had same tail patch on bottom and a deck patch.
Just thought I’d throw this in - Skip’s a master…
Pete
sort of looks like a pretty thin rail to me… from the pics. Especially in the nose and tail. More medium and pinched 5/50 around the wide/mid points.
Somebody post a really good description…please…
Deck contour in the nose? midpoint? tail?
nose/tail thickness?
rail profile?
…we need a side view!
That Skipper brings back lots of memories. Had so many! There’s heaps of blanks which will work. Go to Mitches I shaped heaps of these from E series blanks in the early days then I even used the 7-4R’s with flat rocker. Just order what you need and add some color glue to the stringer for a real retro egg! Pick a blank that doesn’t soak up too much resin though!
I bought this board in 1984 from the old G&S surf shop on PB drive. Joe Roper had a shed on the side of it that he repaired dings out of. I stopped by one day and saw this bitchin egg up on the horizontal rack there in the shop. I bought it on the spot. It was a crazy time cause just a few months later I packed up my ‘64 VW bus and went up to Jackson Wyoming to help build a log home with my girlfriends brother. What’s this, 23 years later?!! Now, here I am fixin’ to turn 50 and wanting to replicate this very fun board. Aint life a TRIP? I’ve had a few too many maragaritas, otherwise I’d post dims. I’ll post them later, I promise. Here are some side shots.
