Mitches La Jolla had two new hynson red fins a couple weeks ago. Price tag was a little under $1500 so they still might be there.
Redbloke, while Skip did spend a lot of time with Hynson during the production era of the Hynson Model, he did not shape any of G&S Hynson redfins that I know of. I’m pretty sure he shaped himself a redfin pintail gun along with Mike, for their Surfer/Stoner Ranch pics trip. Yes, it was a very progressive board at the time (mid '60s), and was ridden by many, many hot surfers of the era, but if you are thinking of paying those prices for the board, ask to ride it first even if it is an investment. Leaving my own red fin on the North shore back in '66 was my biggest surfing mistake, but somehow I don’t think it would be advanced by today’s standards…
I believe Surfride in Oceanside carries Hynson shapes. I ordered a custom Hynson HY-II from a mgr there named Sean Mattison several yrs ago who may be able to stear you in the right direction…
P.O.P.E.
try motion of the ocean surfshop, ask for turtle
it wasn’t a redfin, but i saw a 7’ single fin Skip Fry G&S with light green rails
in ‘okay’ condition at the longboard grotto in leucadia last weekend.
RedBloke - Check your private message. I might be able to help you out.
Yup, they are still there. Saw them right before I ordered my new blank. Just think, how many boards one could build with $1500!
