The Inlet, and the crew there, took surfing to a new level. Unique small wave venue that gave more power pound for pound than anywhere in the world. Over a 30 year period the approach to this phenomenon was studied and dissected until a perfection was achieved. Unfortunately the wedge is dead. The new jetty structure just doesn’t give the same bounce. The future is therefore unsure. Slater represents the phoenix of a lost surf culture.
the guy is completely amazing! he has a long road ahead of him for the rest of this year but he’s really starting off with a bang. if he pulls out a championship this year, it’s going to be Sports Illustrated cover material for sure, not to mention giving him Curren-esque mistique.
Can you imagine playing catch up to that guy? The Curren comeback is the only achievment he has left. He holds all other records. Krypton must be proud.
I knew he was out of the ordinary when I saw him airdrop a ten foot face double-up down at 3rd peak around 1985. BTW he stuck it and went straight into a fins out off the lip/floater and stuck that. Anyone who surfs down there knows how thick that near shorepound gets. He was like 4 1/2 feet tall. Also almost kicked his ass when he dropped in on me a couple years later at fort pierce!! The little brat! He thought he was all that…
