Slater wins again ?

Just finished watchin Hurley pro. I don’t know if it’s just me ?

But me think’s K/S may be overscored a little …?

There’s no denying he’s the best of all time, but…

 Is he overscored ??

For sure.

I just watched the heat. Seems to me like both of Owen’s waves were better than both of Kelly’s.

More variety, more critical, more radical…

Owen got robbed. Seems like Kelly got the score 'cause he claimed that last wave?

He better watch out tho, Owen’s got his number.

I’d like to know the dims on their boards…

Seems like OW could have used some more width?

Ke11y ,

5-9 x 18.25 x 2.25 eps / epoxy roundpin fred ruble

OW ,

6-2 x 18.5 x 2.25

Thank’s for saying it for me Chrisp .

That was my sentiment exactly !! It would seem the “dog & pony show” might have a, not so hidden agenda ?

I can see it now," Slater win’s historic title number 11 "

Of course everyone that’s already on the “Kelly” bandwagon will scream that we’re “Slater haters”, but It’s hard not to be cynical when the big companies that sponsor the “Show”, stand to make millions in sales ?

I have nothing against K/S, he’s no doubt the greatest competitor in suring history, but the judges…?

“Are they,” GIVEN INSTRUCTIONS" ? Or are they seeing something that we are’nt ?

I actually saw that final differently.  I had Slater winning easily.  If you watch the 4 waves that became the scores to decide the heat Slater clearly got the better of each exchange.  One of Owen’s throw away scores [the 7.37] was way over-scored.  Kelly’s turns were sharper and just plain perfect.

My complaint with the judging can best be summed up with the round 4 heat yesterday with Joel Parkinson, Julian Wilson and Mick Fanning.  They gave Julian Wilson a 9.8 (the highest score of the contest) for a 2 manuever ride on a medium sized wave.  Those were two cute tricks but there is no way it should have scored significantly higher than Parkinson’s last wave that features 7 fully committed and perfectly executed maneuvers.  Thankfully the right man ended up winning the heat leaving Julian Wilson to stomp away like a petulant spoiled child.

I am sick of seeing big scores being given for airs especially if its a one or two maneuver ride.  If an air is gonna get a big score it had better be something very special done of the biggest wave of the day.  With that said I wouldn’t have given Slater a 10 on that wave in New york…It was at best a 9.5

Yah, I only watched the scoring waves and like you said, I see it differently.

Right on Knowaloha…

Owen’s, what, probably about 4-5 inches taller and maybe 10-20 lbs heavier than Slater?

Seems like Trestle’s is a wave where lot’s of bogging goes on…

Maybe he could have used some more width?

are you kidding? slater get underscored on most of his waves. his speed power creativity flair make most of the others look silly. owen does a good job of consistently doing the ‘right moves’ but is mechanical to watch - you dont get the feeling that he is really pushing it on the brink of losing it like mick, joel, taj, slater etc. i think he gets way overscored and got pushed through this event. mick should have gotten the nod and the inteference call against julian? SERIOUSLY?!

i agree - it was good to see parko win yesterday despite those ridiculous moves by julian - he absolutely owned that heat. today in their rematch however julian really spanked him. when the good sets waves come through, you can see how much above and beyond slater, mick, joel are but in the little lully waves the kids tricks are pretty amazing.

This wave by Julian Wilson was the most over-scored wave I’ve seen in a long time.  I’m sorry but this does not impress me even a little bit.  Cute tricks but I wouldn’t have given this wave more than a 7 given the scores Parko and Fanning recieved durring the same heat.

he should try some of Jordys boards so he can push way harder .

he will do better in years to come

To each their own is all I can say…   Reminds me of the evolution of skateboading from the late 70’s to today…

Slater won for sure, he used every part of his body from fingers to his toes to drive his board to where it needed to be and out again.

His last wave, dissect it. imagine if he needed a 10…? the best I have seen him surf in an event in a long time.

Owen will have his number one day!

but

I hope slater keeps going until the very end…15 world titles? doable!  he’s at the point where he really really can do something extra extra extraordinary. Power of his mind, re-booted! He wants to be a GOD! haha.

haha

Is Owen the best Australian goofy footer since Tom Carroll?  He has the same shaper as T.C, and Kelly took over from T.C in the early 90’s. I think that connection is cool.

…Owen looks like the worlds best goofy so far!

oi looks like kelly ran out of fingers…whats he going to stick up next, ha ha.

big toe lol, middle toe?

Just looked at the final - of the waves shown - I would say that Slater's waves looked better.  His turns were sharper, snappier and more precise.

However,if you're surfing against someone much shorter and lighter - then the laws of physics are against you.

The original SB

Owens waves were bigger and his turns more critical.

Judges crucify anyone else for repetitive surfing, however slater seems to be an exception ?As for bein the “original” silverbak, well I’ve been a hairy fu@$@r for a loooong time.

You’re just a pommy version !!

Its like some people were watching a completely different heat.  I had Slater winning easily.
