Small wave shortboard, reduced toe in??

Long story short, I have a small to medium wave round tail eps shortboard. I normally ride fish and longboards. One thing I struggle with on shortboards is generating speed, as my other boards do it for me ha. Anyway, I was thinking of reducing toe in, to give more “stand there” speed. Is this a good idea?. If I sacrifice a little manouverability that is fine, its light weight, and im looking at basic shortboard turns at the moment.

I was also going to do a quad setup, both sets on the rail ( I love twin fins ), and thought 2 sets on the rail with reduced toe would be pretty fast.

Thoughts??

Keep in mind its for small to mediun beachies, and im more of a carver, than a snapper.

in regards to what Everysurfer said about small board with less toe in…

isn’t that part of the Tomo secret sauce???

looseness, to an extent, aids in generating speed on a shortboard. pumping and tac tacking is how speed is made…

Have you seen these Beerfan?

These can really help with the motion…

Sorry, can’t comment on the toe in thing. Maybe someone with more design experience will comment.

Hey chris, cheers. I can “pump” no problem, i just usually do it to go from fast to very fast haha. Im trying to reduce the need for as much “pumping” on this board when finned as a thruster. I guess im trying to get more"natural" speed from a low volume board.

If you don’t want to pump, go flat bottom to bevel rails.  Hull it.  My latest, six to eight foot yesterday,  blew the doors off!  No pump, just go!

Less toe in for sure if you are going for a light weight shortie that you can just push around anyway.

One of the biggest dogs I ever made was with reduced toe in. The board was based on another board I liked, rocker and outline wise, with the only differences being toe in and bottom contour. Tracky piece of shit that would fight turns and then suddenly let go.

Ok guys cheers. Maybe I should just 2+1 it and be done with it haha?!

Oh boy here we go, let me put my helmut on and buckle my chin strap....ok, I'm ready for the troll to attack..

Depends on what you mean by less toe in.  1/8 less toe in on a 6'2" is a lot different than 1/8 less toe in on a 7'10".  So are you talking about pointing fins at the nose vs 1' off, of 1.5 off, or 2 off?

Depending on your waves etc, you can make a board with more rocker, less toe and keep the fins a bit more up and down (thank you probox)  Now if you combine that with a concave under the front foot to keep the center of the board fairly flat, but rockery out on the rails, you can make a decent board. Keeping it flat in the center will alow speed down the line, but a rockery rail line will turn off the rail well when needed.

Also make a lighter board 1.5 EPS 4 oz cloth etc.  Sheding weight will increase turn speed.

This is what I mean.  Look at the level in the center of the board vs the level out at the rail line. More rocker out on the rail.

Hope this helps. it works for me.

Cheers mate, its a 6’2" round tail, 4x44 s cloth marko 1.9lb foam, pretty light ( for me definately ). I was hoping the lightness and round tail would mean I could get away with less toe in. Maybe 3/16 instead of 1/4. Thanks resinhead, im gunna try it

I think so.

I think so.  I wouldn’t let me add this above. Also, I hate hulls for they are monotonous one speed sleds.  A little bit less toe and you get a bit more drive.
