I just finished reading a newspaper article my mom clipped out for me - deadly sea snakes on So. Cal. beaches, courtesy of El Nino. 15" yellow bellied sea snake was found last Thursday washed up on beach in Oxnard, “some of the most poisonous venom in the world”, but they say attacks on humans rare. Normally a warm water critter, El Nino is bringin’ em’ to Southern California. Last Ca sighting 1982-3 in the El Nino at San Clemente beach in OC.
Yeah,
Momma rushed me with that.
WTF? I told her they are very non aggressive.
And thank God!
If they were like the Black Momba or our local favorite
the Mojave greens and chase your sorry ass.
Well I’m more concerned with Hammerheads.
Aloha
Hammerhead snakes !?!?!! ;-)
Shark!
Aggressive asshole too!
We live with juvenile great whites and grown up blues and leopards
The Hammerheads came up with the warm water as well.
Nasty fish.
I saw 'em in the water down at Rio Nexpa years ago.
They have very small mouths and as said previously are non aggressive.
Hammerheads aren’t a particular problem, fish eaters, mostly. None of this is really a problem. The GW around here mostly leave people alone, all sea snakes are very timid and you’d have to step on one to even get a nip (I’ve dived with them in the Philippines and they’re just fun to watch). I think we’re lucky we don’t have Maui’s tiger sharks or SA’s GW population, and no bull sharks either. And I love seeing leopard sharks, simply beautiful fish and no threat.
Even the thought of a Tiger Shark, makes me squirm.
