so i made this (a little OT with lots of pics)

ok so being bored i was in the garage looking for something to do/make while the next load of surfboard bits are in the post, lack or surf drives you to odd things eh? anyways i found myself toying with some offcuts of bouyancy foam left over from a recent re-fit of the local scouts kayaks when it hit me Bang! lets make a foamie!

i cant take all the credit for this, i remember reading in a canoe mag (Paddles maybe?) aaaages ago about making foamies, so here goes…

lumps of foam plus crude templates shows where this is going…

score, saw and surform (hack!) out the profile of the boat

i did think of trying to make more of a surf kayak style boat, http://www.surfkayaks.com/products/surf/surf_frames.html but wasnt sure how well it’d roll with such a long bow and short stern

so anyway!

finished profile of the boat, furry!

the lovely chap to perch in said boat

and skewered

paddles

i hope he has pirate ascestors with hooks for hands!

and with a dab of superglue here and there he’s ready for his first pool session!

now some people might call this cruel…

but its how my dad taught me to eskimo roll!

woo! it works! needed a bit of lead weight in the bottom of the boat, hense the slot but it works!

now just a lick of paint needed, a name as with all our kayaks then he’s good to hit the surf

or maybe the local river

one step at a time and all
