So I want to make some keels for a Mini Simmons. Does anybody know where I can get a small panel of marine ply on the central coast of CA? I may just have to hit up a few marine supply shops, but I thought I’d ask here first. Thanks in advance.

Try a boatyard for leftovers/scraps. Bring a sixpack of good beer.
hope that's of use

do you really need marine ply?..I don’t know.
there’s an outfit at Port San Luis in Avila Beach and another marine repair shop at Morro Bay that might have the pieces you need.
PM me your address...
how much do you need?
Just another option for you. I had some hobby store/craft shop plywood that worked really well for making some keels for a mini sims. The hobby ply I used has many thin layers which I think helped me eye the foiling. Also had no voids. These were my first hand foiled fins and I think they turned out really well.

You might get what you ask for ( marine ply) which could mean alot of things. Do you want a specific core? How many plys? Face veneers?
If you glass the fins the waterproof glueline won't really matter. The size of those fins could easily be cut out of other plywoods that dont have voids and footballs. Some baltic would be solid inexpensive and foil nicely. Probably available everywhere.
Sign shops also use MDO which has a waterproof glueline. You could check boat builders and other shops that use marine ply or boat forums for builders in your area. If you tell them what you need they may give you a piece. I usually have scraps like that that I throw in the dumpster all the time.
chrisp, PM sent.
Thanks for the replies - all good suggestions. I’m not THAT picky about the material, and I haven’t spent very much time shopping around - but my local lumber yard didn’t really have what I was looking for. I would like to go with a similar type of ply as the original Lis fishes, and the Joe Bauguess Mini Sims if possible. I figured a local boatyard or Marine supply shop in Avila or Morro Bay would be my best bet - hadn’t thought about the hobby shop. It sounds like chrisp may have what I’m looking for. If not, then I’ll hit up the above resources. Thanks again for the replies.
Baltic birch ply works really well. See if a cabinet shop will let you pick through their scrap or kindling pile. That’s how I get mine. It’s free. Well, I do bring some beer. You can probably get a whole sheet of the stuff at HP. Not the highest quality, though. Mike
