speared

hi guys, we have a board that got skewered by his buddy. looking at the ding/gash, it’s about 5" on the bottom and through to the deck to about a 2" hole. i was wondering if there was a good way to fill the hole other than cutting a piece of foam to fill it in. i’d appreciate the help, thanks – dave

sorry, but foam’s your best bet. i’ve fixed this type of ding by shoving a piece of preshaped, close fitting foam in the hole then sanded it down and topped it with “fast-n-final” spackling compound. this way, you get a level sanded finish (around the edge where the new foam doesn’t exactly match the old so the seam doesn’t show) and don’t have to use resin to hold the foam in place before final glassing of the repair. hope someone else has a better option for you. good luck!!!

tape off the deck where the hole is, flip over, mix some micro-balloons in some resin, kick it off, and pour in the hole. once cured sand down, glass, hotcoat, sand again and youre done. easy as cake.
