I've never used it, but it looks like its a lacquer that is sprayed on - definitely not a replacement for hotcoat.  Sounds like something you could use once you get the hotcoat sanded out to where there are no surface blems - then spray a thin application of speedcote.

Speedcote seems to be a single pack (i.e no catalyst/hardener) spray on clear coat - Thin it, pour into a spray gun and away you go...

I had a board repaired recently and speedcote was used to seal the repaired areas. I wasnt impressed and ended up sanding it all off and hotcoating the bottom of the board again.

Also It dried with a very matt finish.

I think for a new build Id definately want to hotcoat - but Im sure people will point you in the right direction.. and Id like to know its real purpose!

try floor sealers like supercrylic at smart n final.(not as a hot coat.........you still need to hotcoat and sand).

it's covers great and gives the same effect.

i've discovered several different sealers...........lower cost stuff i can use, that are just as effective and in most cases better by 100%.

also, try a tile/grout sealer.my buddy over at the river swears by it.

Speedcote is NOT an alternative to your hotcoat. It is a finish that’s used on top (sprayed) of your finish sanded board. It serves 2 purposes:
1.It seals your board from water - fibreglass is hydroscopic unless sealed.

  1. It provides a faster finish - the matte finish attracts a film of water - this then reduces surface friction.

No way,

try it as a hotcoat....and get back to us.

But first, I'd spend some time looking around the archives. Try typing in "How to make a surfboard".

Good luck and get back to us on your endevors.  Post picks of that first board.

Hopefully you meant Gloss coat.
