question ? care to elaborate on why you would walk away from a job building the personal boards of one of the worlds best surfers , in a factory with leading edge inspiring tech and some of the biggest names in the business ??
actually , i can already guess ,so maybe its a question best left un answered …
I’d certainly make boards for Hawaii a little narrower to accommodate the juice. You see in those specs the 7’ gun is narrowest. I’m 6’3" and 85 KG. Proportionately my boards would be smaller for me than the average height dude on his 6’1.
I keep wanting my original pre-FW composite board back to refer to. It also has the same specs as above, but 16mm railwood. One of the FW Directors borrowed it. Maybe I kiss it goodbye, but shucks I wish…
I have the rocker hotwire files for it. So I can see where I’ve gone to from it.
The thing with FW was the sheer number of boards I did:- It was great for getting a bog-standard approach down and handing it over to production…but all my personal boards are Left-field. There’s a little something in each of them thats a bit too rad. Improvisation… I made skins out of Offcuts, for example. Yeah, its a hard one, would these ideas have occurred to me had I never gone with FW?

Thanks Josh
that’s what I was looking for
as I’m about 200lb but only 5’7" and old
the majority of my PU performance thruster shorties have been in the 6’8"-7’2" and 20"-21" and 2.75"-3.18" thick so I’m trying to understand how thin I need to go to get my compsand to flex right without having floatation issues.
Sitting up to your chichi’s in shark infested waters by yourself is not what I consider fun.
We’ve been averaging 1/2"-1.5" railbands of pure balsa, balsa/cork, cedar/cork, corecel and blue dow as well. Sounds like FW decided to go narrower because when we were comparing the first generation boards to the current boards we noticed that the old fish I had was both thicker and had thicker rail bands so it seems the boards have changed in the past year.
beautiful work
best wishes
thanks again
PS
how does the double concave deck feel paddling or sitting on it versus surfing it?
The Double concave deck is a good stable feeling paddling.
The chest area is single concave, so the chest is cupped, and the double concave bit for your thighs.
When standing, your feet are over the bar, its a solid, connected feel. But I have high arches in my feet. Bert, on the other hand has very flat feet. For such, a single concave would offer more foot surface area.
Solo signs off by saying "When dealing in lies…the truth becomes the enemy. "
Now I fully understand what he is talking about.
“I made all of Taj Burrows personal boards…but to have Taj win on one I made…”
Honestly now…wasn’t your input in these boards just glassing them? Not exactly “making” them. Might look good on a resume though I suppose.
“The boards in the attached pics are my personal quiver:-they are the prototypes for many of aspects of Firewires construction tech, but you won’t see these in their model range!”
Wouldn’t that make them the property of Firewire?
Beware all you swaylockians…it would appear that truth and honesty is further away than first thought.
I am merely pointing out the facts… something that often goes unchecked here on sways.
Just because somebody makes a statement in an internet forum, that does not mean that it is 100% true and correct. Unfortunately, many readers of such forums believe that it is.
So you have some idea what I did or did’nt do on those boards, and you’re in Northern Tasmania…
How go figure? And you saying something about Honesty???
And who would those boards belong to when factoring that every one of them contains something of mine? The first full length balsa that I brought from Victoria, or even just my decal…
Anybody, ANYBODY who knows the story would not begrudge me my claim on those boards,
I merely asked whether they would belong to Firewire. I didn’t realise that you would be so defensive.
If the’re yours, they’re yours. …But I think that you have already answered that question…
"And who would those boards belong to when factoring that every one of them contains something of mine? The first full length balsa that I brought from Victoria, or even just my decal… "
You and I (and everybody on sways) know that a decal on a board made for and paid for by somebody else does not make that board yours.
Yes… I reside in beautiful Weymouth on the North coast of Tas. I happen to have some very good friends on the Gold Coast that I communicate with regularly.
I have not baldly accused you of lying. I have just pointed out a few untruths to which I thought you might like to respond and clear up.
To date none of them have been cleared up.
“This thread has been about me going to a more positive place, and nobody can take that away.”
Yes…it’s a place where you can pat yourself on the back in public and have a stack of others believe the crap and pat you on the back as well.
“You need to sort a few facts for yourself buddy, coz I got an idea who your friends are.”
Come on now Speedy, attack is the best form of defence. Why don’t you really “Set the record straight” it seems like there are some issues that need to be put on the record here. Do you truly consider glassing a few boards is the same as “personally making all of Taj’s boards”? Did you really make the blanks and shape them as well. Aren’t they just “popped” out?
I suspect we will never get a direct answer to that one.
Silly,
Facts are facts.
With all the crap that is spilled in this forum, how can you tell what is bullshit and what is not…Oh that’s right…it must be true, Bert and Josh said so…
I don’t think that you are that silly.
I wish you all the best in your more positive place…just be true to yourself if nobody else.
No matter how you say it, no matter how you gloss over them, no matter how much you talk them down, one thing remains…facts are facts…
