Herb, I’ve read a few of your posts. Why do you dis the Rusty c-5 and totally push your turbo’s? It seems to me that Rusty has the resources to play around with all diffrent configurations of the c-5 and has setteled on his current set up. How could a “backyard” guy such as yourself do maybe 20 or 30 (I doubt more than that) Turbo’s and claim it? Just wondering.
Ron, I don’t mean to dis Rusty’s C-5,but on the hand, have you ridden a Rusty C-5?I have. I’ve also been building my Supercharger since 1997,and I have built well over a hundred of them.I don’t know how rusty does his R&D,but I can tell you, my boards have been down the path of evolution.I have a friend that works in aerospace, that is a physics engineer.A few select riders, and I have been putting it to the physical tests. This has lead it to what I have now… in time it will evolve again. For your knowledge, the masters of gung-fu said the same things about Bruce Lee.They said,How could a man with only 5 YEARS of formal training in the marital arts change what took the masters centuries to develop.Marital arts like the art of board building is evolving, ever changing. If you ever want to try one…contact me… the design speaks for it self.,Aloha,Herb.P.S. I CAN ALSO CHANGE YOUR FAVORITE TRI-FIN for the better…much better!
Herb, Thanks for responding. I actually have ridden a Rusty c-5 because I have one! I use 3 diffrent fin templates. My favorite is the upright one probably a lot like the fin you’re using except maybe a little bigger( 1 1\2"). You may have tried the half moon or the other longer base template in surf that wasn’t tune with the fin as the longer base ones need quite a bit of wall. The more upright fins are a lot looser. I notice Rusty always gives credit to Will Jobson for the idea. I’m knowledgeable on hydrodynamics and this is why the c-5 or your Turbo’s make sense.
Hi Ron, I was unaware that rusty has come up with a new template for his canards. It use to be just the two larger ones… as you see his C-5s are going down the road of evolution too! Thanks for the Qs I’m always up for a challenge.By the way did you check out my boards in the board pic section? Also check out the users profile, see you out someday(my kids are screaming, wifes out of town)Herb.

herb, the fin base is halfway in front of the leading edge of the side fins. I’ve had the board for about a year so I’m not sure if Rusty has changed anything around since then.
