spray fixatives for color/art

Have any of you tried using spray fixatives on your art/color, and if so, what kind of problems did you encounter (or not)? Thanks…Tom.

Thanks …Tom… do you mean acrylic aerosol spray can types, like krylon? if so THE ONLY compatible one to use is Dutch Boy, “Fresh Look” it was sold at K-Mart ,but I haven’t seen it in clear lately(maybe discontinued). You can use krylon ,but LIGHTLY!!!Herb.

Tom, when I was spraying a lot of boards, I found liked to do light mist fades that looked like ice blue resin tints, but they would get scuffed really easy. I tried out regular white glue, thinned out to the consistancy of latex paint with water. I would do a nice wet mist over my color and it would seal the surface nicely and lock down the paint. Krylon works good too, but is much more costly. Clear acrylic coatings work well too.

Tom V. I occasionally use Krylon spray fixative or hairspray on delicate art work. I use the mat finish variety and, as Herb suggests, only spray a light tack coat. The water and glue method sounds more economical. The risk of bleed can be reduced by carefully cleaning the surface with air. When mixing the paint I use airbrush medium as opposed to water and reduce the amount. This probably doesn’t matter as long as you give the paint plenty of time to dry. I avoid the use of flow release and retarder - must clean the airbrush quickly when finished. Hope this helps some. Patrick

Jim, Herb, and Patrick…thanks a heap!!; REALLY appreciate the info…Excellent advice! Aloha, T. (I really like the glue tip, Jim - thanks!!).
