I was just wondering…would it be possible to airbrush artwork on top of the sanded hotcoat?
Yes,
80% percent of our art is done on top of the filler coat then finished with acrylic clear. http://www.feraldave.com
i tried that on an old board of mine to cover up some water spots, it looked good but even after i sprayed clear coat paint over it, it would still scratch off with my fingernail…i thought you were really supposed to paint the shaped blank?
Thank you for the responces…I will be gloss coating ontop. Dave i really like your work…How long would something like that take?
its takes around 30-60 mins to do most of ours. i have streamlined our process. we do 20+ sprays a week from our cataloge so you can get kinda fast when you do them all the time! http://www.feraldave.com
bob, what kind of preparation did you do? when we spray new boards they come direct from the sanding room. p.s. this one took 15 minutes http://www.feraldave.com
…Life is so full of interesting things. …Clear acrylic coated, paint jobs on sanded hotcoats will scratch, but done correctly, it shouldn’t come off easily.Too much paint(under the gloss coat on the sanded hotcoat) on a board that is glossed and polished will cause delam…or worst yet a real crappy gloss. This may not be the rule for some genius of today, but is usually the rule. …By-the-way, Nice art/airworks Dave…Herb
thanks herb, i look forward to meeting you one day! as for the scratches etc, if the sanding is finished with 150 grit, i find the acrylic sticks very well. with 2 good coats of clear after… its quite hard to scratch off. too thick paint will cause dramas. http://www.feraldave.com
well maybe i used the wrong paint , i dunno…i just know it came off way to easily. im shure i got the cheap stuff, whats the good stuff?
the best quaility motor acrylics and thinners work for us! also careful preparation. http://www.feraldave.com
… nice work Dave!
