Looking for an explanation (theory) on the pro/cons of a single-fin with a squash tail (application a mid/range egg shape)?
I have heard mixed comments, mostly negative about the use of a single-fin on a squash tail, most stated the squash is better for thrusters or 2+1 but explanations to why have been light.
I am considering a 7’6" squash-tail egg/funshape 16.75" nose x 21.5" x 14" tail x 3" thick with thinned out rails hard in the back. I was hoping to gain some drive and spunk out of the squash as opposed to the std. rounded pin.
check liddlesurfboards.com- the mp3 model has what we call an arc tail(similar to squash tail).i have several with that tail design with widths up to 16" and ALL single fins.
I love that clip. I’ve changed the focus of this stub I’m working on toward the outline an capabilities of that exact board, reshaped it, thinking about a flex fin and 2 Lokboxes – no stepdeck though, just thick foam for the thick man
My board is not the one surfed in the movie, but it’s the exact same shape (so I’ve been told)… but it’s in great shape, never been dinged, hasn’t been in the water that much if you ask me… and I don’t put it in the water that much neither… it actually sits on the wall of my living room (too scared of damaging it )
I’d be super-interested to see it from several angles, if you have time, and I bet others would too! Does it have the stepdeck? What fin? If it would be easier you could e-mail me the pics and I’ll put them on Photobucket and mount/link them here if you want. You can PM me for my email if that’s easier for you. Seriously would love to see it. Exciting stuff with the wide point forward, and a flyer in the outline, isn’t it? What bottom?
Ive hear several times that tail choice is personal preference and not a huge factore it how any given board rides although I personaly notice the difference from square to pin…with squash and round pin being softer variables
