squeegee availabiltiy

Anyone know of any places in the states that sell the flexible rubber squeeges (similar to the ones on Foam E-z)? I’m looking for a place that’s NOT mailorder. And in Florida.

I just did my my first lam with one of the yellow semi-flexible squeeges they sell at marine supply stores and the yellow color ran all over the board.

I’m not sure why mail order is a problem. But in case you want to do it through the mail, there is a good company in San Diego that sells cloth, buckets, squeegee’s etc.:

dip your yellow squeegee in the resin you are using( or alcohol or any solvent) and then wipe off hard with a clean white rag and all the excess yellow dye will come off. The squeegee will be good for ten boards if you wipe it off after each board lam. The squeegee I use for polyester has no dye in it but it doesn;t work as well as the spackle squeegee with epoxy. Personal preference for me.

chalk it up to experience and now that you know it won’t happen again. It’s a common mistake that I have seen mentioned 2 or 3 times a month

LOL!!

And now there is the secret as to why my first board ended up resin tinted yellow… I had yellow West System Squegees… they sucked…

I now use a paint roller!

Try a cut-up vertical blind(s)…they work killer, plus you can pitch them or wash them clean…some floor/wall molding works also.

herb’s vertical blind suggestion is a good one…i always keep a few lying around in case i get into a pinch…but i usually prefer a real squeegee. there’s a marine supply place in fort lauderdale that has good squeegees, but i don’t recall the name…and also a place in west palm called “glue products”. they both have rubber squeegees.

alternatively, go to walmart. in the auto care section, you can find a 3-pack of different sized squeegees. they’re gray…and they work well for epoxy. they’re a bit more flexible than the yellow ones. i wouldn’t recommend them for poly.

Howzit surfer_dave, I’ve used those yellow squeegees for years and never seen one bleed. I have a shaper friend who uses them instead of rubber ones and no bleeding for him either. It must be the brand since there was a post about this same problem just a while back.Aloha,Kokua

fiberglass florida in rockledge, brevard county. they’ve got both the old school squeegee for poly work and the yello plastic that is for epoxy. tho it sounds like you’ve already tried the yello.
