Left a message earlier and never really got an answer. I could use advice as to shape for a new board. Looking at around 8’6"-8’8". For smaller surf up to 8’, and somewhat weak and slow waves. I weigh in at 215 and can use help in figuring this out.
Hey Mike, I’m starting on an 8’8" pintail which was originally conceived for fun summer surf for the southern shores in Hawaii. 8’8 x 17.75 x 22.25 x 14.75 x 3 are the dimensions. Rockers: N- 4.5" ; T- 2.75". You may want to make your board a little thicker, but the rest of the dimensions should be right on. Do some research on rail & bottom design to figure out what you’re going for. Good luck.
Mike, Hunts dimensions look quite appropriate, but my feelings are that if you’re gonna go up to 8’8" you might want to consider just going 9’0". The extra length would help with paddling. Happy shaping!!!
you may want to check out the 8’8" semi-gun Paul Gross made for me.it’s in the archives(i think).so far it has worked great form 2’ up to 5’, although made for 10-12’ surf.
Matt, That 8-8 is in the archives. It is #489 in the 8-0 - 8-11 section. It is somewhat like one Paul made me back in 94, although mine was a squaretail. It now resides up in Humbolt County. It was also a board that would work in any surf. Had some memorable sessions at Rincon that winter.
mike- if you are building with polyester and polyurethane, ck the clark catalogue for the 8’8’‘E - you stated that you weigh in @ 215- this blank will support your weight just fine- one quick note- the blank i am referring to has a slight natural roll in the bottom- if you are wanting to make a flat bottomed board, you will have to flatten the bottom before you move to the next step. clark also offers a 8’10’S- it is a close tolerance blank, and if you choose this one, go easy with the planer. any further questions, email me-
