Lot’s of fish talk around here, so now Iam stoked. Played around with a template today, a cross between a fish and a sting. Rick Hamon used to make something similar to this during the Surfing’s New Image era. I made three of these when I was a kid in the 70’s but it was all just eyeball stuff back then. This time I used my 7’0 AIPA sting, and some dimensia I picked up here off the archives, here is where I am going. Any and all critiques appreciated before I go and buy a blank. Iam 43, 6’1" and 218 ±lbs (depends on weekend Hinano intake). Length-6’5", Nose 18.5,Width 22.5 4" fwd of center,3/4" Sting 22" from tail (20" width @ sting/18.5 behind),Tail 16", swallow tail 9.75 (tip-tip/4" cut),Thickness 3 1/8". Iam thinkin Clark 7’3" E Blank. I have been riding the AIPA funsting (7’0"x21") all over Oahu with great results. It’s multi fin box/FCS and can be tuned for lined up (single fin)or sloapy (C5) breaks. This time time I am looking at a twin fin with a center trailer fin confiquration. Just not sure where to position the fins, I dont plan on using keel type fins, I’d rather use an FCS set up. This will be a summer board for Hawaii, and California. I am thinking about beveled rails (3/4" nose to sting), and Iam hesitant (although I like the feel on previous boards) of the step bottom due to the overall width of the board. My questions are in regards to dimensions, type blank, fin positions, beveled rails, and effects of step bottom on such a wide planing area. Well, if you fish maestros think I am in the ball park or I should make some adjustments let me know. Back to the future! Mahalo, Dave
