stinger question

Found pictures and planshape of the Aipa Stinger model in the surfresearch site, there’s little info about these boards, only the fact that Mark Richards had a quiver of these in the 70 ties. (pictures to) Does anyone know what they surfed like, good or bad things ? Also what blank should I use : 7.0 A. or a 7.3 B (Becker) Board size 6.8 21 wide p. I was thinking low entry rocker, but I’m not sure. Any ideas/info ??? Peter Rijk

How does the stinger release for tight carves in comparison to a board with wings or even double or triple wings? In theory, aren’t these features meant to supposed to perform similarly?

How does the stinger release for tight carves in comparison to a board > with wings or even double or triple wings? In theory, aren’t these > features meant to supposed to perform similarly?>>>>>>>>>Yes,but a stinger’s outline defers from that of a winger. Also the stings are further up so the energy release is quicker.Herb.

Nose is 15.1/4", and tail is 14 3/8". nose rocker is 5 3/16", tail rocker is 2 1/2". Swallow tail is 7".

Say howzit to Ben for me.Tell him Rainbow Bridge surfboards lives.ALOHA.Herb.

Let me know how it rides, I think its a single fin ? Are the bevels from nose to first winger, how wide? Are the rails sharp from the winger to tail? Thanks. Peter Rijk.

Let me know how it rides, I think its a single fin ? Are the bevels from > nose to first winger, how wide? Are the rails sharp from the winger to > tail?>>> Thanks.>>> Peter Rijk. Just got back from morning session 2-3’ Laniakea. The board shreds!I am getting ready to throw away all my thrusters! I rode it in a single fin confiquration with the little C5 fins installed, next ride will be without the C5’s. Used an 8" fin I reshaped, took the template off a 1970’s fin Ben had sittin around in the factory. We built the board with a standard box in the center and FCS plugs for a thruster/C5 confiquration. It felt really good surfing up and down in the pocket. Next board will have a longer box installed to get the single fin further up to the step. In order to use the board as a thruster we had to set the box pretty far back. I had to cut about an 1 1/4" off the front of the single fin base to get the fin further up the board. The bevels begin gently in the nose and become 1" all the way to the stings, in affect Iam riding a 19" bottom although the board is 21" wide. Yes rails are hard from sting to tail, and the swallow tail cut is 2". I am six foot tall and weigh 210 so I went 7’on the board length. Next board will probably be similar dimensions however 6’7" in length and 3 1/16 thick. Back to the future! Good luck with your project. Are you going to glass it? Laters Dave

Mahalo, Dave for sharing the info, it would be easier to make one myself, yes I’m going to glass it myself and I was thinking of doing another epoxy project this time I’m a little worried about the step and the wings for the use of my vacuum pump and bag now. When using poly. I would like to use volan cloth however, I like a strong board better than an ultra light with dents and dings. I came to this from riding a fish Steve Brom made me, that surfs unreal to, so this started me digging into the seventys and started me thinking when I saw these boards. Its full cirkel indeed, a board design from Ben, from that time, being made on the other side of the globe. Where would we be whitout the internet and especialy Swailocks, we would be back to buying boards from the rack and all riding what the wct guys a riding. Happy surfing Dave. Peter Rijk.
