What is going on there? I was just out in the water with one of the shapers in Santa Cruz and he said he just got his board stolen out of his truck while it was parked at his shaping room. This board is well known here in Santa Cruz, so it is going to have to leave town. We have not had this problem since the 60s, when all of the whatabes were out. Is this what is going on again?

My friend had his longboard stolen…fairly distinctive T. Maus Hawaiian Style w/ coke bottle green glass and a high-density yellow foam t-band stringer. Gone, but not forgotten, until the day 4 years later that it was spotted in the water. The guy surfing it and his buddy who lent it to him spent a pleasant morning contemplating the walls of the police station…the serial number was on file at the shop it was ordered from. So good luck, and keep an eye out. Hope you get the board back. http://homepage.mac.com/dubstar/long_beach/11561.html

Whoops, sorry about that! I didn’t mean to include the photo…

always report your stolen board to the police, park ranger or sheriff. otherwise you have no legal recourse if you find them. I found a stolen board at Cowell’s once and the police let me have it on the spot and took the gent with it to the slammer.ask your shady drug using friends(if they are still your friends)where they would sell a “hot” board. Here in Santa Cruz there is a used sporting goods store that is famous for somehow ending up with stolen boards.they are also famous for being snarly when you find your board in their shop.

Im a cop in Houston, Tx, and yes we do get waves on the gulf. Not as good as calif.,but waves none the least and some good size when a tropical wave comes through. Regarding having your board stolen: Be sure and write down the serial number of your board if you have one. if you don’t you might want to inscribe your D.L. number somewhere conspicuous. If your board gets stolen be sure and make a report with the local authorities and give them that serial,i.e.social or drivers license number, also be precise on the description of your board. If its found at a pawn shop or surf board shop notify your local authorities and they will come out and put a hold on your board for you.Remember you have to be able to positively identify your property because there may be a property hearing to determine ownership. These shops that buy stolen property have to obtain a drivers license or identification card from the person that brought your board into their shop so unless their was some witnesses to the theft a charge of theft by recieving could be filed on the person that brought it in. Most Law Enforcment authorities across the nation handel these type of inicdent the same.
