I am going to make a performace short board (6’0") and how much weigh would i save if i did one layer of 6 on top with 2 small 4 ounce foot patches for my feet and a 4oz bottom with glassons. Also i will be using the yelow blank.
Thanks

OK, you got me with the “yellow” blank.
Traditional 6’ shapes, when finished, like to weigh around 4.5 lbs.
Traditional glassing is single 4 bottom, 4+4 patch on deck, equaling about a 7lbs. board.
Since you’re using 6 full length deck, plan on 4 oz increase.
Weight of glassons depends how much rope, cloth, and material is left on, how much patching is used, and how much the fins weigh.
On the other hand, I don’t think weight matters much, be it 7 lbs. or 11 lbs., if you have some sizeable surf, if you can surf.
For flicky tricky moves, yes, lightweight is best…but that equals ugly surfing.
In My Humble Opinion.
How long do you think the board woudl last?
I’ve seen some Pro’s boards set up with 4 bottom and 6 deck with a 2/3 4oz patch. I think you’re better off with a single 4 both sides and the 2/3 deck patch so you will get to that level board performance you seem to be after. I get my boards below the 5 pound mark on a regular basis. I have one board i use regularly that is glassed this way and it is almost a yeaar old. On the other hand, I’ve broken 5 boards glassed in this way over the last 3 years. the “yellow” blank sounds like the Ultra Light density which I do not use very often, but this will also get the board light as well. This week, I am doing a board for a guy who will be getting a “squeegee deck” to save even more weight; after lamming the board tape the rails to expose the deck area. Using GLOSS resin, squeegee this area leaving a textured deck. Pull tape and hotcoat the rails and then the bottom as per usual. Sand the rails and bottom and it’s done. Lasts pretty long- at least a couple of heats…
if you want better performance…that comes from u…all boards will do just about anything you want them to …if you know how…
a performance board…should be light?..my performance board at the moment …I can hardly pick it up…weight is super important…used properly for the right conditions and what your trying to do…if you surf in wind…light will under perform…or it will get blown with the wind and may work…the yin and the yang …so hopefully this gives you an insite of the conditions to use it properly
The easiest way to lighten up a board without sacrificing strength that I’ve found is to use epoxy resin. A 6 oz bottom and 6x4 top done in epoxy on clark foam will be as light as 4 oz bottom and 4x4 top done in polyester but much stronger. Need more strength still? Use s-cloth.
get a vacumn pump…
