harvested dead agave ,big point now is:stringer yes or no? being this wood used for stringers why total agave board should have one? can a longer board be so flexible and arriving to break? some say de strength of a bord is on the glass,i`ve the idea every thing counts:dimensions, core, fiber, resin, etc and most of it the `artist´.
No you don't need a stringer with an agave board. Design it just like a balsa board.
If you are going to chamber it then stringers are handy because the give you something to glue too when your putting the pieces back together.
1) lay out your agave planks
2) where you want the stringers, you glue thick brown paper in place of stringers
3) shape board to semi finished shape with paper stringers
4) Take rubber mallet and break board apart at paper seams
5) chamber board
6) run chambered sections through surface planer
7) reglue chambered sections together with stringers of choice in place of old brown paper
8) finish final shape and finish sand.
Good luck Senor Miguelaragao
dear resinhead very kind givin all this tips . my know how on wood boards is zero. the agave call me most cause of ecofriend (only harvest dead plants) , beauty and soft/light material (and they are here) . i thought agave(non chambered )and foam boards weight would be simmilar (agave board save/less weight on fibers and resin) , didn`t think about chamber it!? recon must do it? i hate heavy boards and don`t total agree on this: `in the water you don`t feel the weight!`. i want my boards , first for surfing then to last . another thing i guess is agave boards floting more, mean they need less thickness. muito obrigado
