Has anyone made a 5’0" or smaller board for an “adult” as opposed to a grom? I’m wondering if it would feasable to shape a 5’0" with a decent amount of foam that could still get me into 3-5 foot surf. Is volume a reasonable thing to compare across boards? Such as, my 28 liter shortboard floats me so that would be the lower bound for volume in the 5’0"? I’m sure planshape plays into how it floats me in a major way. Just looking for some advice. Thanks.
I have a 4'8 ( or 4'10'', cant remember ) bellyboard shaped. Im 5'9'' x 79kg. Its 20 1/2 wide, but has a 19 nose and tail, and is 3'' thick. I haven't glassed it yet so im not sure about it. Being a bellyboard, i think with flippers i'll be ok.
I also have a 5'8'' egg which is in the shaping process now. Its 17n x 21 x 17t x 3, and im guessing it'll paddle ok, just not sure how i'll go surfing it!!!
I made a hollow wood bellyboard 4'2" 3" thick. I can get up on it easily but it surfs and paddles like a bellyboard. I weigh about 145 lbs.
A friend of mine made a 4’11" out of a broken board. He lives on the Big Island (Hawaii) and surfs it in a wide range of conditions. I do not know the dimensions or anything else about it. He’s about 6 ft tall and at least 180 lbs.
