sun cure epoxy bonding to RR epoxy

Hey folks.

I tried to fix a little ding on my board at the week end. My board is glassed with RR epoxy. I cleaned and sanded the area and applied the sun cure epoxy before taking it outside. The resin cured ok but when I went to sand it down I noticed the new resin was flakign away. It just did not bond well at all.

Have any of you guys experienced this ???

I’ve had the same problem using regular epoxy on repairs as well as sun cured which was caused by sanding with too fine a grit. What grit did you sand to? My best results have been sanding with 50 grit then glassing.

I’ve used the suncure UV epoxy brand, with 80 grit pre sanding (and brushing away the dust), and it sticks nicely.

I always try to match the resins exactly… once uv, always uv…once rr, always rr… etc. Same with poly.

But if you can’t, you gotta sand with at LEAST 80 grit. Scuff it up really good, and don’t forget to do a DNA wipe before you apply the filler resin.
