go out and buy some real gloss resin…reichold is preferred…and then mix it up with kokua’s recipe…it’s not that expensive and you’ll be much better off…trust me.
in addition to using HC resin for a gloss, you might want to get some specially formulated UV gloss resin that has no dye in it. The resin is water-white. The stuff is available on Dale’s website; http://surfsource.net/suncure/index.htm/scmfgprice.htm
I think that most folks who use the UV cured resin will tell that it it is not a good idea to shoot a UV gloss coat. Simply to many variables are at play that can and will go wrong.
Use regular gloss resin and kick it with MEKP. I use Kokua’s formula, which is based off of Pre-formulated gloss resin. I use about 1.25CC per ounce of resin plus 5% Surfacing agent. Temperature may vary the amount of MEKP somewhat.
You can search for days about this in the archives. Just type in “Kokua gloss” in the earch field
I tried a bunch of different ways to get a good suncure gloss to no avail.Same goes for hotcoats.Best to use Reichold resin.Kokua’s formula is right on.If the resin is older you may have to use more styrene.I found I could “save” older thick gloss resin by mixing it with new stuff and then do the styrene (wax sol) thing.A lot of gloss resins are repackaged with different names so how do you know which is which? If the resin is clear light honey colored it is Silmar. If it looks orangy brown it’s Reichold. In my humble opinion I like Reichold.Silmar kicks to slow and can eat pins done on the hotcoat making them bleed.
