Sk8ment- solid rework, pleasant garden. It all looks good from here. -J
Yew, so keen to sand then surf it…
Thanks man.
Adam
Never ever ever ever ever doing a fabric inlay over pre lam fins boxes again!!!
That looks really nice. Might try some other materials too on my next boards.
You’d have been okay with the finboxes had you just done them after the fabric instead of before.
Its had the wet and dry and the pro finish now.
Feels so good under the arm.
Its 2.75 kg, not bad for the 2 6 oz on top and one 6 on the bottom.
Those fins look fun and that inlay fabric is really cool looking.
Thanks man!
Well i did a little arty versin of the antishark stripes. hahaha
I have surfed it once.
I got back into the other one which is the same shape, as much as it can be with the machine i have used… (read back to see what i mean)
Its gunna have the parabolic stingers of cedar and pu foam rails…
Nice – you are clearly enjoying the process, which I’m also doing and of which (from which?) I think many here have already exited to the other side. I dig the glassing “clogs.” I glass in flip flops with the toes papered over and taped. Result ends up looking the same: resin-caked clogs. Good times.
The glassing clogs are not mine, they’re matt from “the factory” surfboards. He just held the board for me. ahhahahah
He is my mentor in a way, he makes AMAZING boards. HATES EPOXY, but makes epic epic boards, bot is absolutely open to ideas, did his aprentaship with tom wegener.
Total champ.
So this is the other board that WAS going to be a compsand, originally i thoght a comsand due to the lightweight version of the foam, but with the solid and sturdy nature of the glassing on it im doing something different. its gunna have cedar parbolic stingers and i snaveled some pu offcuts from Matt, (see what i mean about him being open to ideas), these have been glued on and there is likely to be an agave tail block of some description as the rails had a hard time with the curve.
After the glue went off i attacked the foam with a hand saw and the hand plane to bring the rails into a similar profile ot the inner eps blank, then My fiance had physio and i packed up and went surfing on the stringerles eps epoxy version, IT WAS FUN!!! Surf was average but… the board shows great potential, the rebound and zip out of turns its wild, the eps and lack of stringer is super zippy. will be interesting to see how it goes with a set of “parabolic” stringers. i will try to make the rails as close to the same as the others as i can.
YYYYEEEWWWW!!!
thought i was doing so well.
That feeling when you have to rout through the cedar stringer you have worked so hard to create…
Lost the board off the stand after the last router, for the box. Then the massive dings in the PU rail you have spent an age getting as close as you can to right.
Needless to say i was devo… but i sussed out the search and achives for steam and heat gun options and settles for “sellys spakfilla”, or what you guys call “spakle”, glad i have worked out what the fuck that is now. Contemplating putting a watery layer of that stuff all over the EPS Hmmmmmm.
Interesting how few build threads there have been for the last little while…
Either way keep building and for petes sake keep us posted on what you do.
I am sorry for your toss…
Since misery loves company, here’s my today’s latest, 3 feet of batten-guided, power-tool assisted stringer disaster and the next 9 feet that turned out OK freehand with a hand saw. The taper is so bad on the one half that I’ll have to do something asym with the stringer design to fix it.-J
PS The parabolic board is looking nice.
Love your work randy…
So i used some spakfilla to patch the dints.
Then i went for a paddle this arvo and had to make a choice…
I went the middle one…
Ive done a bit of laminating.
My free laps are way better on this one.
Interesting how the spak filla shows throught he glass and hoe the resin had leached into this light eps. especially as i thinned it down with some metho. may be a reason behind the great flex ive been getting on the other one.
Got myself a set of scales for measuring resin so i must be pro now.
Experimented with a little glitter in the top lam coat. My fiance put heaps on but alot came off when i was scraping off excess resin
Wow? For some reason none of the pics attached, I’ll do it later.
