Well since I have given some good reviews to Griffin and Mike Daniels I am going to even it up with a bad review for sunova.First off it took a solid year to get the board.I think they told me it was done at least 2 or 3 times but Bert said it was to light and felt that I might break it.I gave them dimensions 3 times as well.
So after a year I finally get the board and it looks amazing. So I take her out in some chest to head high waves and I could not for the life of me get that thing to turn like it should.I tried different fin combos but still could not get it to turn.Oh yeah it was the heaviest compsand board I have and the whole flex thing Bert was talking about yeah right!I call it the
door board cause that is what it felt like.Completely dead as far as flex goes.It sure does look pretty though! I did not feel any kind of twang or anything magical.
After telling craftee what I was feeling he said bring the board over so he could check it out.Well he showed me that the center fin was actually set in the board crooked!I was like holy shit I waited a year for a board from a guy that claims his board can change the way you think about surfboards and I get a board that is heavy, has crooked fin plugs and is as stiff as some dude on viagra.
I wasn’t goin to say anything about cause I don’t like to bad mouth people but sunova can kiss my ass.Berts claims are lame and I feel totally ass raped by my experiance with them!!!
Oh yeah craftee even made a fin out of g10 to correct the fin plug being crooked. That still did not help so does anybody want to buy a ramp that looks like a surfboard?I will sell it for real cheap!
did that for sure.I offered to send the board back. They did say they made me new one and before they were to send it I got a email saying they that Bert wasn’t happy with the rocker and they had to make a new one.
I am not going to pursue it though. It is what it is and I learned a little something.
You are right about that OTAY.Greg made me a great board and I would rather ride it for one day than having a lifeless crooked fin plug durable board! It is all opinion though.
Sounds like a two session board makes you a pro. Maybe sunova can sponsor you with your griffin addiction. A buckled board in beach break after two sessions goes back for a refund in my book. Too bad about the distance between you and quality shapers.
Gregg Griffin is down the street from me. Never considered going to FL or Sunova in thailand to order a board. Is surfercross never content and has to go beyond his neighborhood to be disappointed twice? Sounds like sunova is willing to take care of him. Wish they could respond and show how childish and immature going public about this is. If I were Mike D I wouldn’t make the guy a board. Not worth the headache.
but with the work he’s doing with Tony of Slingshot and the tech he’s getting access to through Tony I’m sure he’ll be blowing by everyone in a year or two.
CNC machined G10 and liquid carbon molded GRIFF-fins, and composite tech that only the high end kiteboard and sailboard guru’s could dream of or have access to…
Starting with complete design and personal experience and incorporating super high tech where it serves its purpose is what’s coming. But doing it right from the beginning is his goal.
No pro here Otay just another surfer. The buckle in the board was my fault.I learn about different shapers on sways and I like to see what they have to offer so that is why I got the sunova. They just have really bad customer service and I am not the only one and I know this from surfers that post on realsurf.com.
The last time I had any contact with sunova was 5 months ago so that is why I made my comments on here.I gave them every chance to make it right.
The boards I got from Mike were real good Otay.
Here is what a sunova rides like and this will make you happy Otay.It is just like a surftech dead wrong.
Sorry to hear you weren’t happy with your Sunova, a shame about the fin being crooked as well.
I have to say I had both of my Sunova’s (6’6" & 6’4") glassed heavy and was advised that they would be quite stiff but didn’t care as I wanted them glassed to last and don’t like riding noodles (Firewires) anyway. I’m also used to riding heavy Pu short boards, glassed double 6 ounce with a deck patch so the Sunova’s feel light enough to me. Josh & Greg were really responsive to my requests & Burt personally called me to go through the 2nd order so I’m pretty happy all up.
Hopefully Burt will contact you to compensate or resolve the issues?
“A buckled board in beach break after two sessions goes back for a refund in my book.”
Hi -
I’ve seen BRAND NEW polyurethane/polyester surfboards break on the first paddle out - not a single wave ridden. It happens.
No refund.
No refunds on busted Surftechs either.
I’ve seen tons of those. Have had personal discussion with Randy French regarding stringers… He insisted they “Aren’t necessary.”
If you can offer a guarantee against breakage on a good riding light weight board, please let me know. A guarantee against deck denting would be a plus. Keep the price down too, OK?
I’m just relieved to learn I’m not the only one to put a fin in crooked…That’s a looooong way to order a custom board. Internet slamming is BS by the way. Just saying. Mike

Costco has a no questions asked return policy. When people come asking for repair work on those things, tell 'em to take it back and exchange it for a new one.
Yeah so should we tell the guy to just put the pic up and let one of us smart cookies point out the crooky?
Wonder how long that would take if he didnt say anything and just put up the pic?
Lets see Ive got an email with a new site from a guy with some great lookin boards, kinda side by side with one mentioned, ohh shoulda been here yesterday, right.
Sorry bout your disappointment, but rooster is giving some good advice.
