Would a double 6oz dec and a single 6oz bottom lam on a heavy density EPS blank with a 1/2" wood stringer be strong enough for a SUP board.
It will be for a total beginner (me) and be ridden on those flat days or ankle bitters, when a regular long board wont do.
Any advice??
Cheers
-should work but would be better with a 2nd layer on the bottom…I trust you have the specs you want…

And add a deck patch that goes around the rails, that’s where you’ll hit it with the paddle
You can leave out the stringer if you want.
The 6oz bottom will dent so will the deck, but most surfboards get dents.
Leave it on the lounge wall and it will last forever.
My current 10’3" weighs 9.5kg. Nice and easy to get on and off the roof racks.
Boardbumps
I would like to hijack for just one quick question. Which has the best glass to resin ratio, two layers of 10 oz, or 5 layers of 4 oz.?
5 layers of 4 oz.
Just because you admit you’re jacking a thread doesn’t make it any cooler.
fosta
choose one
a. 30 lbs
b.35 lbs
c.25 lbs
d.29lbs
e.20lbs
weigh 1/2’’ stringer
weigh proposed glass
,1 yd, and exttrapolate the glass weight.
I have been trying with glass options
for a number of years
relative to my 12’ board study
with poly urethane as well as
epoxy for the last year.
the 1/4 ‘’ bass was about 4 lbs per stringer
that makes 1/2’’ 8=9 lbs
the addition of a layer of glass
is an easy five maybe more lbs inc. resin
paddling open ocean or even flat water
with weight can be justified.
your call.
the big weight goes to sixty lbs.
and the ride is smoothe,
a special aquired taste …
… ambrose…
yep your call
no stringer 2.5 lb esp
single layer w/d-patch
20 lbs.
dents?
dont abuse your stuff.
or sell it before you do.
like paddle it out and sell it before you paddle in.
budget?
build it strong
to last.
unlimited funds?
build it light and flaunt the mutha.

Yes.
11’6" x 30" x 4 1/2 - 4 3/4. (not sure of the thickness as yet)
Im thinking I should probably go with 3 x 6 oz dec and 2 x 6 oz bottom.
Give it some strength along the rail for all the paddle bashing.
Being a total beginner, it with probably get a good going over.
Cheers
my guess is it will result in 34.5lbs
tell me how close my guess is.
this i resin research perameters.
with an I beam on the bottom
fin box and three leash plugs
two for a handle and one for the leash I wont use.
…ambrose…
and a 3/8 bass stringer…
Great day all, I just finished a 10’ x 28" x 5ish SUP. It weighs 25.8 with 6oz glass, .125" Dcell, 2# eps, 2 4wfs boxes, deck pad, 1 regular longboard box, a vent, and a leash plug. Everyone who has tried it says it surfs great. I’m still in the learning curve and don’t have much to compare it against other than 31"ers x 12" that were true tankers. Other issue - the biggest is has been in is head high. Keep having fun.
