SUP Surfing Pics....

Some pics of friends riding our boards…

Last week, Ikaika Kalama riding a 1 lb EPS 10’x27"x4" He rips on it…

Today… Derek Agaran on a 2.5 lb EPS 10’-6"x27"x4-1/4"

After getting a long ride then washed in and ready to head back out… Look at that wave outside!

It was nice and fun today…

Heading back out…

A very typical overhead swell day on the North Shore…

What is the expected life for a board made from 1lb EPS an traditional epoxy glassing??

Are you testing??

So far, 6 months and going strong… Glassing schedule is 7.5 or 10oz bottoms with double 7.5+4oz tops… Still light and strong… We do a lot of 2 lb stuff mostly… I’ve had a couple light weight prototype ones that are starting to get taxed… Still going after 5 months of heavy abuse and still in the water almost everyday… The key to 1 lb or any density EPS that we’ve found is you have to be diligent fixing dings right away instead of surfing with them taking on water all the time… If boards are not repaired and have gaping wounds then left out in the sun “breathing”… Well, a delam is almost a sure thing…

Few more pics…

Heading back out to the lefts.

Stroking into the rights…

Ikaika off the bottom…

Nothing to do with SUP but I took these yesterday too… Every spot has its resident ripper. Well Kerry Terukina is Haleiwa’s main man. He even works right at the Surf Center directly on the beach. Kerry is the most knowledgeble man at Haleiwa and it doesn’t matter if its 2’ or 15’, he kills it. In his mid-40’s these shots show he still knows how to put it on rail… Back in the day, he was also was a master of big Laniakea…

CarveNalu-

What type of finished weight will I end up with 1lb eps and 10oz bottoms with double 7.5+4oz tops? 15lbs?

Having a 10’4" 1lb shaped this week.

SB

We’re ending up around 18 lbs. and 20 lbs on the 10 oz stuff… I just weighed a 10’ gunny board with the 10 oz set up and it was 19-1/2 lbs.

Also, the Makaha Quiksilver Makahiki Contest in this weekend and the SUP division will be on Sunday… If I get eliminated again I’ll get some pics for you of the final. Next week, Heavywater Magazine here has a contest at Sunset for the Jr Pro’s. An hour before the final they are going to have a SUP division. Sunset by ourselves! Then after that is Buffalo’s contest at Makaha… Lots of fun stuff coming up…

More pics from todays session… 1-10-07 Wish the lighting was better but the waves were good.

Derek heading out into some thick ones…

Not a good place to be!

Once in the groove, Derek got some great super long rides…

In early on another one…

You could stand straight up in this barrel…

Thanks BC. Hoping to get one under 20lbs for Noosa fest.

Standing by for pics!!

I weighed a few more different sizes and weight seems to be around 1.9 lbs per foot using 7.5 oz bottom and double 7.5+4 oz tops… This changes if the board is gunny shaped or full nosed… What is Noosa Fest?

Noosa fest is long running LB contest in AUstralia.

They’re having a SUP division this year and I’m going over to check it out.
