Supecharger Update - FINALLY!

So I finally got a copy of the FCS video and installed my first set of FCS plugs in a Hybrid Thruster. (Thanks, Jim for the loan of the kit.) Put the stick in the water today - less than optimum conditions and rode it without the teeth and the plugs covered with tape to approximate the former riding conditions. Rode the stick for about an hour. Came in; slid in the shark teeth and paddled back out. Quite frankly I am impressed by the difference in the ride. The paddling, catching and manuverability all seem affected for the better. Herb, it seems you’ve really got something here. The conditions (1-3 and gutless) limited the review of course and I am looking forward to taking it out next time it gets overhead. Some issues that I am concerned with are: placement, 'Charger angle alignment, size of Supercharger in proportion to the board and fins, and whether the cant of the rail fins affect overall Supercharger performance. I installed the Chargers from memory, so by no measure was it an exact science. I must have come at least a bit close to proper installation because there was a perceptible difference. Thanks again Herb for being so generous with your time, information, and innovation. You are da Man. Magoo

herb had some really good sessions this last swell. surfed 4 days last week at zero’s, shoulder to headhigh+, and this new board(7’2"x19.75"x2 1/2" semi gun, pin, GR fins, 7’3"P blank w/ natural rocker) is definitely my best one yet. i’ve tried all the charger templates as well as the c-5 ellipticals and no chargers. what i like is the way the chargers make the board feel like it glides more, like it’s riding higher in the water but with more bite and hold. i found myself sitting farther outside and getting into waves easier. surprisingly the twinnie chargers and elliptical rustys(i like the way these are foiled superthin) seem to perform best(although i think my plugs are a little too far forward which puts these in optimal placement). i think they also provide the most difference in feel. also surprising was with all that fin surface area the board is pretty loose, def. so for a 7’2". all in all i’m super stoked, thanks for the time and effort. next board’s gonna be a scaled down 6’5" version. hope you caught some of this last swell.

Bruce, I believe you are correct in regards to plug/charger placement.IF THE PLACEMENT IS FURTHER UP: It will require a longer base,as well as a taller charger in small increaments. That’s why the rusty elipticals or my 2" x 2" twinnie chargers worked best.If the placement of the chargers are shifted back closer to the main outboard fins ,you can shrink the charger size w/o loss of optimum performance, and you will gain more levels in these areas of performance. I’m glad that you like the system, play with it. In time you will dial it in even better. It took me over 4 years to get where I am with the design,so keep up the good work, and THANKS for the feedback,Herb.

I’m stoked it worked for you !!! I’ll send you a sheet,I also plan on up-dated the sheet to make it more professional, and user friendly.Herb.

I e-mailed Herb earlier to convey my thanks to him for sharing his designs and notes on the super chargers. I had a great opportunity to try this design out a week ago. We had a great little swell that peaked on Saturday afternoon leaving most in doubt of having surf for the next morning. A friend and I took the opportunity to score some nice shoulder high peaks that were feathered by a light 4-6 mph. offshore wind. We were on it by 8:30 or so and had the entire morning and early afternoon to ourselves last Sunday. I had loaned both of my own boards to a friend for a trip and had made a point to use the opportunity to do some R&D. I took an old 7’0" Sunset single fin winged swallow I’ve been wanting to ride and my friend had a couple of the hybrid fish types I’ve been doing for him. The “infamous” 6’8" Hybrid Fish, twinzer setup, complete with Super Chargers included. When I got on the supercharged setup there was a notable change in performance. Takeoffs and top turns seemed to have an added dimension as to the line that could be drawn and each little pump of the twin setup felt amplified with the chargers in place. I was impressed and am looking forward to working with this setup this winter. I’ve got two more boards ready for fins and am going to install the setup on both. One is a 6’2" and the other a 7’0", will share what I can as I get a chance to ride them. Hey tom, Just one look and I knew that fish would rage!

Hey tom, Just one look and I knew that fish would rage! Thanks, guys…you ROCK!..This feedback helps lots. I plan on introducing 2 more templates next month a gap filler between the “Tip Forward” and the “twinnie”.Also A “TIP FORWARD” IN A LARGER SIZE to accomadate large twins.Herb.
