Has anyone tried putting a c5 upright fin in place of the superchargers. I’ve been thinking about buying a pair. I’ve got the fcs plugs installed per supercharger directions on a 6’4" flyer swallow tail short board. Just thought I’d get an opinion before paying 20 clams for more fins. Thanks, Rob.
the c-5’s will cast a larger “resistance shadow” over your main fins than the smaller superchargers will. if i understand the ‘priesendorfer theory’ correctly, they will disengage water flow over your mains to a greater degree, loosening the turning proportionately. i definitely defer to, and look forwar to reading Herb’s (ore anyone else’s )take on your question.>>> Has anyone tried putting a c5 upright fin in place of the superchargers. > I’ve been thinking about buying a pair. Since the fins are bigger (even the small ones) and the foil is different they seem to create more drag at lower speed. I have done a few C5 setups and like them when the waves were good and had some punch, but in smaller surf they seemed to be counter productive. The superchargers worked way better for me in all kinds of surf. They gave my board drive without making it feel stiff, like the C5 setup. Rob I don’t have a personal email, just the office one. Let me know and we can meet somewhere, if you want to borrow those fins. It looks like we might very a bit of some groundswell this weekend but the wind will be on it. Maybe a early session.

Mike, If there are some waves this weekend give me a call @478-1901. I’d like to try out those fins. Do you happen to have the c5 upright, too. I live near Mi mexico and surf out front there or head towards inlet. Mostly surf uncrowded areas, but inlet too good to avoid. Let me know, Rob.

I will call you tonite and work something out with you. I do have one of my old C5 setups at my house, that I gave to a friend awhile ago, but he in turn is selling it to some guy he works with tomorrow. I am doing some minor ding repair for him. If you want you can come by and check out that setup as well. Talk to you soon.
Gary Niblock has a nice John Mel hybrid in the board archive somewhere. He uses some different fin options. I can’t find the board, but I think he has used the C-5 and Superchargers and can probably provide some feedback.
rob i’ve been switching around chargers from herb and a set of c-5 keel fins. actually on my 7’2" semigun the supercharger plugs were set like 3/16" too far forward and the keel fins work best in it. i like using bigger side fins(like G-R’s) and a smaller trailer(like a YU) with both the schargers and c-5’s. .
Herb, have you ever made any Superchargers out of a flexible rubber material? If so, how were the results? Also, is there any other way to attach your chargers besides FCS plugs? Can you just glue them on with a little resin or super glue? Thanx!

Thanx! …As of now they could be put into the board by cutting a little slot, and inserting them inplace with some resin/glass combo. >>>>>I wanted to make a mold for stick-on/glue-on fins(like the Control Products little stick-on fins),but I haven’t had the time to do so. >>>>>>>I have made the chargers out of a few different materials including polyprop.,polyurethane…I have discovered that if the chargers flex ,they loose there effectiveness.Herb
