supplies to New York City?

Hi, I’m planning to go to the states for 4 days, visit NYC (I’m from Holland, Europe). Does anyone know a store (near) there where I can buy building materials and-or tools? I might even want to pick up 1 or more blanks… Thanks a lot!

i know of a place in south jersey which carries resin and cloth. as far as blanks…i live outside of philly if you really need a blank. you would also need to find a work place. i can’t loan my space out, it’s not really mine. good luck…

Martijn, There isn’t anywhere that I know of to get blanks locally - unless it’s through one of the shops on Long Island or in New Jersey (call ahead and check). You could try ordering blanks and supplies (fiberglasssupply.com // foamez.com) to have them delivered to where you are staying when here… not sure how a hotel (if that is the case) would deal with having a blank box delivered to your room…! I’m sure that tools, resin, and cloth could be purchased locally but if you are just here for 4 days it’s probably easier to order it and have it sent to NY, or to Holland. NY is a great place to visit. If I bump into you on the street don’t take it personally - we treat all the tourists that way. Have a good trip. just curious. why do you want to spend your time in NYC working on boards? > see the city, it will change you,… I’m not planning to shape there, just want to benifit from being in the states to get me some cheap material, prices are lower there [smile]. Since I’ll be soakin’ up the city I dpn’t have time to drive anywhere and buy any stuff. Maybe having it sent to the Hotel is a good idea [smile] I’ll check with the Hotel an with FiberglassSupply thanks again! See you there!(?) Martijn

Hey, Martijn! Just got a load of these entries. I currently live 35 miles east of NYC (on Long Island). There isn’t a whole lot of access to materials - over here - especially with respect to blanks. Most of us get them from Clark Foam (Florida branch - in the east). If you were planning to take a blank home, " I pities the po’ shaper!"…you will have more misery than it is worth (you’ll pay a ton getting it back to the Netherlands, plus, I doubt that it will survive the trip). Try “homeblown” blanks in the U.K. …the foam is said to be excellent, and it is more likely that your blank(s) will make it to Holland in one piece. As for resins, those are considered hazardous materials, and they won’t let you take them on the plane (in all “likelihood”). (KLM might be more receptive to a “home boy” with a sob story). Do like somebody just said and soak up the experience. LOTS to do…check the Metropolitan Museum of art, and the Guggenheim. Hit as many ethnic restaurants as you can find. It’s a BIG city…you’ll love it! You just missed Ledward Kaapana…a Hawaiian slack key (guitarist) master who played in the city (end of september). Up until about 3 weeks ago you could have surfed here…bareback… in 68 degree(f) H20! it is currently a cool(below normal) autumn of 40 to 45 degrees (air). Leaves are changing quickly… come see the “Empire State”, the genuine “Metropolis”. Aloha, “Mr. T.”.

Martijn Let me add a few thing to think about. It will probably cost you less to direct ship it to Europe. Once to New York, stop, then to Europe Ouch! Two stops, higher cost! Resin can not be shipped on an airplane!!! If you do find an airline that will let you ship resin let me know. I do not want to be on that carrier. I have seen too many of the ape package handlers. Inert products like fiberglass, boxes, fins are good for airplane shipment. Good Luck! Hi Martijn, As the others already told you, this is going to be very expensive and with blanks there is a high risk of damage. better go to : http://www.seabase.ltd.uk/shopping/onlineshop.htm or www.polyservice.nl (resin) or www.homeblown.co.uk If I might give you advise in blanks, I would chose seabase for Clark Foam, good service, much choice, undamaged blanks at your doorstep. (France was faster then the UK) Good luck and a great trip to NY. Peter Rijk.

cool thanks Peter, Tom, Anthony and others, I’ll skip the blank part, as for resin, I wasn’t going to get that [smile] I’ll stick accessoires, inserts fins, etc… (If I can get it anywhere) Maybe get me some trucks and wheels for a skateboard, my guess is that I’ll find a skateshop in NYC… I’ll just enjoy my trip there, that’ll be more than enough for only 4 days [smile] seeya!
