I have a second vehicle in mind. A buddy of mine is selling a ,4wd Cheerokee w/ all the off road options you could think of.Not very good on gas, like 7mpg., but cheap, and in tiptop condition for a 95 w/180 thou on it.There’s like 45,000$ worth of add-ons,motor hi-pros,bars,etc.
A give away at 1,500$.This gas hog coupled w/ a small compact might be the ticket for these times of gasoline wars…My mind, really is open, and I’m looking at all I can take in…
Top Gear (BBC car program) attempted to kill a 80-something Toyota Hilux by leaving it in the ocean overnight, running head on into a tree (25 mph), burning it, running it through a shed … and it refused to die. still ran after it all.
Herb I’ll second the recommendation for the Matrix. I got one because of what Soulstice said. I have no problems sticking longboards inside, if I angle them right I can easily fit in a 9’6". The Yakima roof racks can be stacked 4 boards high on each side without too many problems. I usually keep everything inside, especially in the winter, so I don’t have to deal with tie downs with numb fingers. The first thing people say about my car once they get in it is how much roomier it is inside than they thought it would be. We’ve easily crammed 7 people inside. I get pretty decent gas mileage, up to 32 on the highway, with the automatic XR.
i read throgh the article a bit . and all it is is there takeing a chassis from an mga or vw and striping it down . building the side panels from wood and fiberglassing them . they mention the boards on top are hannon surfboards and voit -amf waterski. anyways with a bit imagination you could come up with some cool modifications to any vehicle . dont realy need plans
Howzit llilibel,I’m drooling now, may have to call the person selling it. Only problem is now I have to fly over and check it out for bondo repairs and other possible problems. I have worked on the older ones extensively and know what to look for. Thanks for the find.Aloha,Kokua
I know if I was doing a lot surf trips with the family/dog along our coast here that Dodge diesel Sprinter looks very nice. fuel mileage is good too for a vehicle of those sizes. There are various cab lengths and heights. And Mercedes makes some super deluxe versions of the Sprinter if cost were not a factor. I hear the small cabin version gets around 28gpm+
check out the 08 impreza 5 door with the roof rack system solvd all my problems from a baby girl to snowbaording to surfing to rally cross

Hey Herb, I have a pre 76 surf wagon for ya. It’s a 72 suburban three door panel, looks like an old paddy wagon or ambulance. It has a very healthy 350 with a LOT of hp goodies. Hauls ass, and still gets around 14 mpg! It’s like a big old hot rod family wagon, fun to drive and it’s dependable too! Bro deal.
