surf check with a difference ....

just walking back from the shops , stopped by the beach to photograph the lineup .

  12pm midday . broad daylight . people everywhere .

there sitting on the grassed area of the amphitheatre .

a guy , arm held above his head , for ALL to say .

sticks a needle in his vein , not 50 feet away from me .

called the cops and waited .

  a sign of the times

but then again , it's been going on here since well into the early seventies .

not what you want to see when checking the surf .

or any OTHER time for that matter  ....

but I guess he was hoping to get arrested anyway , thinking about it on the way , home ...as then he would have had three meals a day , and a roof over his head at least for a while .

whereas , maybe if they made him and others work with the kids their needles had given hepatitis and or A.I.D.S.  too , some?thought? would go into the punishment fitting the crime ....???

anyway , it IS rare for me to indulge in a bit of what some may consider a "rant" [?]  . But , having lived here for  decades,   and having to deal with it regularly , well   .....one does get just a wee bit tired of it , to say the least .

  [and of course ,

  the postscript ....

the surf was PUMPING !!  ]

Maybe I should have taken a photo of the guy , needle in arm , with a WELL-OVERHEAD pitching tube in the background about to annihilate him   . If only I still had my old pentax and 400 lens eh ? [it woulda compressed the perspective enough to have achieved just that very effect !]

Hi Chip, I just read that in Cal. there is an increase in the use of heroin. Black tar from Mexico. With all that has transpired in the past regarding drugs, you'd think folks would wise up. "The ignorant are doomed to repeat the past". I refuse to deal with Dopeheads, they come through town all the time and expect people to help feed their addictions, won't give them a second of my time. Wether it is labeled a "disease" or not, it still comes down to choice.

Howzit Ben,Good for you, that is just so dumb and the guy must be a full on Wacko and if he goes to jail he will get 3 meals and a cot but no more shooting up and will go thru withdrawls. I can't believe anybody would do that in public or even just do it but it is done in private all the time and I feel sorry for those people because they will kill themselves. Aloha,Kokua

yeah , and then he went to the shopping centre and tried to chat to people like he was joe cool . trouble is , he couldn't put words together coherently . or walk in a straight line .

but still the cops wouldn't do anything ???!!!

.... and you wonder why people become apathetic ...

I mean ...fuck me , he had a bag full of needles , a fresh mark in his arm , pinprick eyeballs ...

WHAT MORE EVIDENCE DO THEY NEED ??

and if i had FILMED  him shooting up from two feet away , then would have been invading his "right to privacy" , I suppose ?

these  goody two shoes with their "rights" and their "political correctness" ???  .....let them live in a suburb surrounded by junkies , is what I say !  THEN ,  they may change their tune somewhat ....

anyway,  on a more positive note ....,

HERE is what the aforementioned surf looked like , not 300 metres from where he and his junkie "mates"  were lurking , in the shadows ...

And , a couple of hundred metres further UP the beach ....

[This one was taken from my first surf check spot , every morning ...]

this is walking south , towards the previously mentioned shopping centre ...

hmmm....  I'm not sure why some of these are a bit out of focus ?  sorry crew . I just hope the focus on my camera isn't getting cloudy , like MINE  did a few weeks ago ?  [ In the camera's case , it may just be an extra second needed for focussing , because of the duller light and iso and exposure settings I used , hopefully?]

Hopefully tomorrow I'm hoping for a surf ?  I shall see ...if I can't , then obviously  I won't  [be able to ] !  and I will probably stay AWAY from the amphitheatre area  also , to avoid the chance of needle stick injuries.  [ I will be sure to tell Marty and Karl , as that is where they BOTH walk , barefoot , in the semi light early morning to have their [sometimes pre-]dawn patrol surfs ?! ...]

  cheers !

Swell looks sweet, i wouldn’t mind some of that. and about the other thing it makes you happy to be yourself, some people are in dark places and need help. They should never start things like that but… it is what it is. In life there is always a good and a bad

Third photo (from bottom): there’s an UFO in the sky. No wonder why your shots are out of focus: they didn’t want to be recognized so they sent out-of-focus rays towards your lens. I bet they were carrying heroin with them, too.

the seagull ['ufo']  must have got spiked when it landed , balsa

checked the surf just then [6am friday].

thanks to last night's channel 9 weather report , and facebook , it seemed like EVERY guy in perth who surfed was on it ....so no photos this morning .

so it's back to bed . Then  , when the workmen have come and gone , back to the next agave fin ....

  catchya guys !

Try not to step on any of their damn needles.  I have no sympathy for them.  F…k’m.  Tons of sympathy for their familes and loved ones.  I’m with tblank.  Disease, genetic predisposition, life is tough, all excuses.  It’s a choice every time you stick it in your arm.  Mike

perhaps testosterone injection or deka  to get fired up…

Howzit Herb,Just hope that heroin junkies don't surf, Scum of the earth along with the Ice heads. Aloha,Kokua

it was 'Owl' Chapman who was credited with saying " JUNKIES DON'T SURF ! "

[from memory , ironically , in the 'Mr. Sunset' book ...the Jeff Hakman story . Thankfully for his family , Jeff kicked the habit  ....and RIPS in the surf , to this day . A shining light example ! .... cheers Jeff !]
