just walking back from the shops , stopped by the beach to photograph the lineup .
12pm midday . broad daylight . people everywhere .
there sitting on the grassed area of the amphitheatre .
a guy , arm held above his head , for ALL to say .
sticks a needle in his vein , not 50 feet away from me .
called the cops and waited .
a sign of the times
but then again , it's been going on here since well into the early seventies .
not what you want to see when checking the surf .
or any OTHER time for that matter ....
but I guess he was hoping to get arrested anyway , thinking about it on the way , home ...as then he would have had three meals a day , and a roof over his head at least for a while .
whereas , maybe if they made him and others work with the kids their needles had given hepatitis and or A.I.D.S. too , some?thought? would go into the punishment fitting the crime ....???
anyway , it IS rare for me to indulge in a bit of what some may consider a "rant" [?] . But , having lived here for decades, and having to deal with it regularly , well .....one does get just a wee bit tired of it , to say the least .
[and of course ,
the postscript ....
the surf was PUMPING !! ]
Maybe I should have taken a photo of the guy , needle in arm , with a WELL-OVERHEAD pitching tube in the background about to annihilate him . If only I still had my old pentax and 400 lens eh ? [it woulda compressed the perspective enough to have achieved just that very effect !]
