do any one of you make you own surfboard bag or sock, if anyone of you do make your own bag, can you tell me where i could get the fabric and the padding and the total cost. i’m trying to save money instead of buying the expensive padded bag. thanks
i made a couple of board socks for a trip to barbados. it was easy iwent to a fabric shop, bought some stretch terry cloth for like $7.00. just lay your board on the cloth, fold the cloth over the board and use pins to out line the board and hold the two sides together when you sew. turn it inside out after its sewn and it looks like one you pay 30 bucks for. when i travelled i just used some a/c pipe foam, the split kind and wraped it on the rails. then i tped a cardboard box over the fins and stuffed it in the sock. worked great.

In my poorer days I made a board bag from an old blanket, stitched together with monofilament (fishing line). Sewed a nylon rope in at the wide end to close it with. Plenty strong, and I still use it on occasion as a liner in my regular (zippered) travel bag for extra padding. I’ve also seen a quilt-like board bag made out of towels. Anything’s possible if you have more time than money.
