Surfboard design questions

ok, so i plan to make a 6’7’’ x 19.25 x 2.25.

i want to know where exactly the widest part of the board should be. ive seen some crazy board shapes lately and on some it seems that the widest part of the board is towards the tail, and others i just cant tell. im all confused now, but my best guess would be that the widest part should be in the middle. if it helps, the waves ill be riding are clean over-head, sometimes barreling.

i also want to know how far from the tails end should the base of the center glass-on fin be placed.

i want to put the leash plug in the stringer so what kind of drill bit will i need, and how much for that bit.

thirdly i would like to know the low-tech way of shaping a single concave and a double concave. my plan it to have the single start from the front foot placement and fade into a double. i dont plan to go very deep at all, maybe .25’’ at deepest.

any info or comments would be great!

Peace out swaylockers

wide point – wherever you want it. for a board with low nose rocker and early, easy takeoffs, i’d push it back behind center…kinda like the “Good Karma”. center is okay, too…depends on how you want the board to ride.

are you doing this as a single fin? if so, i highly recommend using a fin box. if not, i suggest some other form of removable fin system. different board prefer different fins in different places…if you don’t already know the end result of what you’re trying to shape, you definitely DON’T want to lock yourself in to a fin setup that doesn’t work.

leash plugs look tacky…if you use a fin box, you can drill a hole through the back and the leash loop will come out through the deck…check the archives for instructions.

shaping a concave is just the same as shaping anything else on the baord. surform and/or sandpaper is as high tech as i go for concaves. pros use the planer, but i’m no pro.
