Surfboard Design Workshop # 2

Surfing Heritage Foundation has graciously agreed to host another Surfboard Design Workshop, at their San Clemente, Ca. facility. The calendar is not set yet, but it looks like the end of May, or beginning of June, as the most likely time. It will be on a Saturday again, and the museum will be open for our event, and attendees ONLY, on that date. Our group will also have access to the historic surfboard collection. Last year, the Pizza was a real hit. Probably do the same again. (It was really good Pizza!) The format will be Q & A, which will drive the discussion where the attendees want it to go. Board design, fin design, construction techniques, and ‘‘secrets of the craft’’, will all be discussed and shared. I will bring my lifetime accumulation of templates, some of which will be shared. This year is the 50th year anniversary of my adventures in surfboard shaping. It will be a mix of the technical, peppered with a dose of ‘‘talk story.’’ Your participation in, and contribution to, the discussion is what makes this sort of thing a success. The fee for attendance will be a TAX DEDUCTABLE contribution to the foundation. The amount is not set yet, but it will include the Pizza and soft drinks. Anyone interested? Let me know.

Bill, if I was out west, I would definitely attend.

Funny when people here talk “out west” they think of Tampa Bay.

Ditto for me.

Bill,

Count me in. The last time I heard you explain design and theory, my brain got full, but I think I’m ready again.

Doug

vurrrrrrrrry interested

Hi Bill,

Maybe we can help with some giveaways or get involved somehow. What do you think?

Brad

Brad,

That is OUTSTANDING ! It is very generous of you, and of course we would be delighted to have some items to raffle. Some blanks perhaps? Almost any surf related products would be appreciated. Thank you.

Def interested – will watch this thread

Yes,

I’d be glad to show up.

How much for a day of learning?

I’ll go.

The last event was outstanding…since then I shaped a couple of boards with your “New Shape” template and used the Phil Edwards template I got from Kawika to shape what is now my favorite board. And what better place than the Surfing Heritage Museum? If anyone hasn’t been there it’s a “scratch and sniff” version of Guy Motil’s new book “Surfboards”. Up close and personal with all the boards you’ve seen in mags and books . The quintessential reference library for the shaper. The information shared and the discussions were priceless, not to mention the great pizza! I’ll be there for sure and will be counting the days.

I will be in San Diego in early May, unfortunately I can’t extend my stay past mid-month. If the event should take place earlier by chance, please count me in.

I’m all over it!

Let me know if I can go.

Dave

I’m glad to hear you’re going to do this again Bill. I really enjoyed the one last year. When you announce the date I’ll mark my calendar and send a check.

D.R.

Will LOVE to come and learn! Let us know the date. I’ll have to squeeze it in between Animal Chiro Classes in Kansas (No surf there!?)!

Les

Ok Bill,

Let us know the dates as soon you get them so we can prepare. Feel free to PM or email me with any info or ideas.

Talk to you soon-

Brad

Being in the UK makes it knid of tough to attend, would there be any chance of a podcast?

Dunk,

No, no podcast, it’s a pretty low key thing, there wont even be a microphone. If you came, you’d be sure to win the prize for the farthest traveled!

Thanks Bill, I’m in!!!

To all the above gentlemen,

Thank you for your enthusiastic, and supportive posts. As soon as a firm date is set, I will notify all. I’m looking forward to doing this workshop again.

It’s fun to do, and all of the proceeds go to a worthy cause, support of the Surfing Heritage Foundation. They are a repository of surfing history.

Thanks again.
