Surfboard for kiting speed problem

I’m following this forum for some time, thank you all for inspiration and tech stuff. But at this moment my surfboard understanding skills are not enough. Surfboard I made for my kiting is 6’1" quad (Probox 6 degree both). I gave it to one of our local rider (far more kite surfing experience ) for a test and second opinion. He pointed that there are two problems

  • board is not going upwind as good as other boards he have used (I also noticed that). Not welcomed in kiting
  • It starts to plane early, but than at a certain speed board just stops. He told me that the feeling was that water stuck between fins.
I will post some pictures and fin placement later.

Thank in advance.

fin toe-in should be close to 0 degrees for kiting; that’s likely contributing to your drag problem. cant angle should have little effect. Single sided fins also induce drag at high speeds; think about using double foiled rear fins in all locations. fins should have enough room between them that they’re all connecting with clear water when the board is on edge…meaning you don’t want them too closely located.

better off with a narrower tail and reduced rocker for ultimate top end and upwindability when powered up.

if board is designed for use in lighter conditions, better off with a wider tail to insure good planing; still reduced rocker relative to what you’ll see in a surfboard blank catalog…

I notice you’re in Latvia; that suggests you’re playing in chop rather than real waves. You don’t need much tail rocker if you’re not riding real waves.
