surfboard on airplane

I am looking to travel from the northeast to southern florida for spring break in a few weeks. Does anyone know how much extra it would cost to bring a couple of boards along on the plane with me? Thanks

PRICES VARY. rememer that. they change there minds at any moment. one small bag of shortboards is probably $75-$125. all depends. if i were u, and were coming for spring break (i live in florida)…i would bring condoms, not alot of money, and a get out of jail free card. chances of renting a board are very slim. the water wont be to cold though. ull probably see waste high surf all week, if not smaller. bring 1 board, not 2. no point. bring a board that works well in small surf. where will u be staying in fla. dj

I will be staying in the Jupiter area. I think I might drive instead. It would be a lot cheaper and it would be nice to have a car down there for the week or two. Thanks

bwinter, This is going to sound cheasy but it has worked for me more times than not: If your airport has curbside assistance (workers called Skycaps) try getting them checked in outside. The Skycaps first answer will always be no and that oversize stuff has to be checked inside. At this point, show the person your ticket/folder and have cash discreetly placed inside. Ask again very nicely if they could help you - they usually will. I paid full price for years until a co-worker gave me this tip. He of course was a part-time Skycap. Twenty buck seems to be the magic number. Herb Bean

There’s no shortage of surfboards on the south east coast of Fl. I agree with DJ bring condoms and money and yes a car will get you to more surf. You’ll be in a good location to venture North or south and probably find alot of surf in Spring. The water should start to warm up in central fl in march 60-65?? It actually was 61 on fri but it’s dropping again with the north. http://www.soulsurfertv.com

Herb Bean, the Sky Cap said to me “how much did it cost you on the way here”, “I said 75$”, “he said how about it all gets on for 20$”, of course he got a nice fat tip for his trouble

Just another quick question: I have heard that many of the beaches in florida are very localized and do not like out-of-town surfers surfing their waves. What beaches around Jupiter are less localized and have good conditions for an intermediate surfer? Thanks

Most of Jupiter is beach break, but Pump House to the north and Jupiter pier , to the south are very localized, as any standout spot, in any town, but the rest of the area in OK. My son, 6’3", got a serious ration on shit at Jupiter pier, until one of the locals saw the label on his board, “where’d you get a Jim Phillips”? “he’s my Dad”, nuff said

“Just another quick question: I have heard that many of the beaches in florida are very localized and do not like out-of-town surfers surfing their waves. What? Ned, i don’t get it…

not to local. nothing good enough to localize really although the souther breaks have plenty of kooks claiming there waves are amazing. north florida is much better in that respect and gets just as much swell if not better. north and central are ur best bet. go to sebastians if nothing is breaking. jupiter inlet might work out for u down there. soem decent spots. by the way, thats a great airplane tip. dj

g-coast… I ment what dj said so nicely “not to local. nothing good enough to localize really although the souther breaks have plenty of kooks claiming there waves are amazing”. go surf some slop, g-c
