There will be a story, related to the above photo, that I will tell, when I can muster the energy. For now, I transported these 8 boards on top with 2 inside from Downey to the hills above Malibu. I was surprised that anyone would actually get behind me. Started out in Downey on the 105 to the 405 and north to the 10 and west to PCH and then up the coast to Malibu Canyon and on home. I had confidence in the Yakimas and my tie downs…but reckoned if anything went wrong on the freeway, I would just speed up and hope that the carnage was not too great!!
The 10 boards along, with these 2 Clark blanks. had been stuffed in this truck. There are at least 2 boards that are missing. One was a short Greg Liddle hull. The other is a 9-6 Paul Gross semi-gun as shown below. Those blue stickers on the bottom were Our Blue Planet logos.
The boards(with the exception of the yellow one) are owned by Tommy Trim as he is known around Malibu. He is the good lookin gent on the left. Here is Tom sometime in the 90’s. This was Tom a few days ago after GAINING around 30 pounds in the last 3-4 weeks. 2 miligrams of klonapin(sp?) keeps him imoblile so the staff does not have to deal with his anxiety and mobility when awake.
There is much more to this story and a purpose for disclosing it which will become clear later. For now, I have to unload those boards and head to Lomita to look after other of Tom’s assets.
as soon as i saw the photo i knew whose boards you had stacked on your roof. good that they are getting found and saved. also good to know tom is getting some proper care. folks this is a tragic and scarey story-one that could happen to any of us, a family member or friend. let's just say tom is extremely lucky to have guys like proneman as a friend.
My wife allways says she has something important to tell me - after dinner - tomorrow then she forgets to tell me and when I ask her then she wants to play the guessing game!. Pisses me off ! If you got a story to tell then tell it !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow! can’t believe you tracked them down for that matter I can’t believe that they found Tom at all, good job Roger, hope you found Tom’s fin stash also. Matt’s right this is a very sad story .
Yes Kirk…the fins are secure along with quite a collection of ancient surf magazines that I believe were giving to Tom by Paul Gross many years ago. I know of at least 2 boards that are missing still and maybe a third. I put some things in motion that could produce results. I also took possession of 2 Clark blanks that Tom had gotten way back when. One has March 1999 stamped on it. He kept threating to make a nose rider.
It seems to me that to honor Tom and perhaps make some small impact, I have to relay all this in some particular way that I have not yet formulated. In the meantime it looks like we have found a very good facility that caters to patients with advanced dementia and he should be transferred there very soon. I visited the place today with Jimmy Medici…and we both were very impressed.
Roger you are a REALLY GOOD friend to TOMMY, thanks for all your work, I think one of those boards was Tom 's old girlfriends ? that surfed ,maybe she kept that one nice PG semigun, not sure.
Google Enzogenol Professional, read the research done on the product, it may be of help for your friend. Infact it maybe of help for everyone, potentially the definitive silver bullet.
Proneman,
I don’t know the story yet, but way to go! Looks like you bud was pretty bad off.
I have a suggestion. Maybe change the title of this post to show the importance of having a friend as good as you! My suggestion is “Rescue Mission, and Surfboards.”
Looks like you did a real good deed here.
I’m not trying to be an editor just looks like the boards would’ve made it… Not sure about your bud though.
Wow, a bit harsh there to the Ogre - hey, he was just saying his piece. I know you're probably stressing about your buddy, and having a hard time dealing with it, but I hate to see that kind of talk here on the forum. Sorry to hear about your friend.

Thanks for this Huck…it may be the perfect place to begin this story. Do you think Ogre got my message? Or should I have danced around with him and pulled my punch and been politically correct etc? Or is my direct message perhaps a service to the Ogre?
If I speak of Tom in the past tense, it is because he is mostly gone as we have known him over the years. Tom is 62 years old…we were both born in May of 1949…and I first got to know him at Serra High School in Gardena Calif.(all boys Catholic school back then) in 1964. We played JV football together as Sophmores. He was the youngest of two boys…
Tom’s dad was an auto mechanic and in fact I bought my first car from him…1957 VW bug. Tom had a 1953 Chevy that his dad fixed up beautifully and was driving at 16…we had a memorable trip to Trestles around that time. A great story in and of itself for another day. We surfed 15th street in Hermosa. Dru Harrison(RIP) lived right there next to the Biltmore and I found out many years later that he was Tom’s favorite surfer and probably influenced his style heavilly. Tom’s short stature and athletisism made for one of the best guys in that zone and he could nose ride superbly.
Tom’s mom Mary worked at Harvey Aluminum in Torrance and was a fun loving women who loved listening to Frank Sinatra records. Many times when I was hanging around the house she would be dancing around to the music. Tom was her baby.
Tom and I always had one of those relationships where we would just tortue each other endlessly. As the smarter of the two. he would usually get the best of the exchanges…but I had a few things on him and used them when needed!
There was lots of stuff going on in the late 60’s with the Viet Nam war and the threat of the draft…drugs etc. Tom’s first cousin got killed in Viet Nam and it shook Tom up as his older brother Joe had been drafted. Tom decided that his brother was not going to Viet Nam if he could help it and went on a hunger strike and ended up not eating for something like 30 days. He had to be put in a hospital and was emaciated and probably pretty close to death. This was a guy who was very strong willed and very committed once he made his mind up. Fierce is a word that comes up. I belive his brother did end up in Nam and Tom slowly began to eat. This was around 1967, after we had graduated high school. I am fairly certain that Tom filed for Conscientious Objector and avoided the draft. I ended up getting married, had a daughter and was granted a hardship deferrment to provide for my family.

Sorry for you Proneman that your skin is so thin! I don't think you are up to danceing with Wood_Ogre and I have no idea what your point is. You aren't doing your friend any favor posting his picture on what amounts to a public forum ! I have no idea how surfboards are of any importance to some one with advanced dementia. My uncle , Myles was committed in Nevada with advanced demntia and my mom and dad were never able to get him out of the state care home . They kept him there for 12 years, drugged the whole time and he died weighing 62 pounds He was in his mid 50s when he died. My grandmother lived in assisted living in Oregon for many years and when she could no longer function on her own the state commited here with advanced dementia and took her apartment to pay for her care. My father and mother traveled to Oregon a few months after they put her away and kidnapped her and brought her to hawaii and hid out on Oahu untill they were able to get legal custody of her , and then brought her to Kauai where she lived for 7 years. 5 years at my younger brothers house and the final 3 years at my house ( because I have a large fenced yard and she could not wonder off ) She passed away at the age of 89 at home where she belonged and during that 7 years she was never drugged to playcate her. Now reading your last post It just so happens that Old Wood_Ogre was not a DRAFT DODGER !! Wood_Ogre was in Vietnam saw a lot of Shit and came home with one Purple Heart and Combat Action award and a Marinecore commendation. ( I was Navy not Marine but did my time with 1ST Marine Div). Be careful who you sling shit at > I can take shit and tend to be dirrect and to the point and I don't dance around! My cousin Robert Lindgren was Army Air Born and was killed in Vietnam. He was medivaced to the army hospital in Danang and I was notified by the Red Cross I was able to see him there about an hour before he was Medivaced to Japan . After seeing him I spent the next hours praying for him to die. He died on the flight to Japan!~! So SHIT happens ! Deal with it !! I am sorry for Tommy and don't think a surboard building forum is the right place to display his miss fortune.. By all means tell us about his life, Interesting thing about my grandmother is that her long term memory was with her untill the end and she allways knew my younger brother and mom. On the other hand because my Uncle was drugged he had no awareness that we know of. ( I wonder sometimes though if maybe he had some kind of awareness that was locked inside his mind by the drugs.) So now it seems as if its Pronemans turn to live a little Shit Happens ! Stay strong my friend, your going to need it !!
