Surfboard shaping club idea.

I was thinking that a shaping club might be a cool idea.
There are a few hacker space hobiest clubs around but they oviously dont tailer to surfers however the idea could work for us.
There are probably lots of surfers that dont have acces to a good place to shape boards. Just try shaping a board when you are a condo dweler.
I was thinking that three cargo containers could be outfited as a shaping bay, glassing bay and a storage locker.

I was wondering what amenitys shapers would outfit a cargo container with?
Ventilation and foam dust colecting system, lighting, blue painted walls, outlets, custom sound system???

i never thought of shaping a board with a club.

A little crude perhaps,but with practice

I’m sure you could get real fine results.

would you use a selection of club densities?

sharing a shape space is a dream

for the guy that doesn’t clean up

or buy extra materials.

it is a nightmare waiting to happen

for the guy that buys just

enough of everything

to finish a board.

it is a glorious opportunity

for a marter to donate time and materials

to friends soon to become aquaintances.

We rent bays, it works pretty well, and you dont even have to be in a club :wink: However unless you have the space to put containers your square footage cost for container rentals and a place to put them will usually be higher than a warehouse. We had a container for a while that I had in one of our parking spaces… Even with that setup the cost per square foot of my warehouse was cheaper than the cost per square foot per containers.

sounds like a bitchin business model.

20$ an hr is  worth it and a great begining for covering the clean -up.

Welcome to the club.....onions and Bar B Que's.....now were talking....Some Tri Tip...maybe a little bell pepper...maybe some Sway's twist to the common meal.....a little bit of this and some of that......steam me up some killer veggies please! Where's the guy from the fishing boat...I'm hungry! How can we build a surfboard on an empty stomach.....

Stingray has the right attitude; still a shaping club could be used to knock some sense into some of these guys like resinhead does to seals.

but a little kerosene

can cut way back

on the number

of matches necessary

to warm your hands

Instead of renting you could buy a couple of  Shipping Containers. If you are close to a City that isa Major port Then There sould be lots of containers for sale.
