I made a mini mal last year and now a year on, my surfing has improved enouygh to make a smaller more manouverable board. i am about 5ft 10, but dont think i can handle a small board coz i tried my mates and i found it hard to be stable on. i was thinking on the lines of a 6’10" short board, or maybe 7’, any sugestions on the size suitable for me?

For me when going from an 8’ to a 6’10" it was like beginning to surf all over again. You will not catch waves like you used to, you will fall and in general be more or less miserable. Good news, you will learn. Good luck! regards, Håvard

Huw…! Never underestimate your power of adaptation! You WILL adjust. Switching your “formats” (off and on) will markedly improve your surfing. Anything new takes time getting used to, but you will learn more about your surfing (what you are doing right or wrong) - as a result. Work your way down to a funshape if you are “leary” (timothy) of a radical transition. Enjoy! It’s all about FUN!
thanks for the info i think i’ll make a 6foot 10 board! now i just have to get the money and think of the designt i wanna put on it! thanks again huw
after 3 months i went down to a 6’7 X 18 5/8" X 2 3/4". What blank did you use?
i used a 7’6" i think or maybe a 10"
it was actually made from a 7’5" blank as that was the only shortboard blank the guy had in his shop at the time, but the whole tail was cut off for more rocker at the front.
